Hi,
Been using tmpgenc dvd author for some time now without any "MAJOR" dilemma's.
Always using this guide:
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=186739
Problem is with TMPGEncDVD Author. When I click "Begin Output" it creates the usual "Volume 1" file containing about 2.3GB size file instead of the more than 4Gb file I'm looking for. I checked the source file (a .m2v of 3.86GB). The .ac3 file is about 392MB. In the "Edit Clip" window (the one with chapters cut tool) I can see all the film start to finish. Also in the status bar the estimated output file size is about 4 Gig. So, everything seems to have worked fine. When I click "Begin Output" it creates a 2.3GB size file. Why?

Have you viewed the output with a software DVD viewer? Is the entire movie there? If not, what's missing?
Maybe the video stream is being reencoded, but I don't know if DVD author does that. -
This happened to me once before and i believe it turned out to be a bad video stream.
What you may want to try is use TMPGEnc's Edit feature, trim 1 frame from the end of the m2v file and then select 'run'. This will create a new m2v file (minus 1 frame). Load this new file into TDA and see if you still get the error. If you don't, then use the new file. If you do, well then....
Your other option would be to find a tool that checks the video stream for bad frames (I think Restream can do this... maybe VDub-MP3? Can anyone suggest a tool?).
To assist further, it would be helpful to know what the source file was... DivX/Xvid? DVD backup? DV footage? etc... -
hi, sorry it was from a 'joined' xvid, with v/dobmod
cud it possibly be a bad ending frame on pt1 or maybe a bad starting frame on pt 2??!!
thxs so far

Have you tried to encode the separate AVIs instead of the joined AVI? You'll have two separate MPGs but most DVD authoring programs will accept multiple MPGs.

hi,
looking at the frames indicator in dvdauthor i can see 1 green pixalated box and some "noise" on the following frame. how can I delete these in dvdauthor?? ( I get the source range is not selected) i would be new to this aspect of the program!!
I only have the joined xvid left, which when played is ok. (no pixalation etc)
Many thxs again -
no i see not...is there a prog I can cut certain frames out of xvid file, then, i wud strip sound out after that to ac3 file?
-
Use VirtualDub to edit out the bad frames. (You can use VDub-MP3 to search for bad frames... it will produce a report with the numbers of the bad frames).
Once you have identified and removed all bad frames, save the avi using 'direct stream copy' for both video and audio.
Then, re-extract the audio and redo your video/audio conversion in TMPGEnc.
Good luck!! -
cheers timmy..
will shout you tomorrow or so on my findings

Hi, Timmy
Done what you said, re: vdub-mp3 reported no bad frames.
What cud be my next line of attack?...splitting avi and rooting out the small pixalation that I can see in tmpgenc??
cheers,
