I'm sure that this is not something "new". However, I still have a problem.
I have a dual PIII system and a Creative Labs SBLive 5.1 Platinum (original, not Audigy) sound card, livedrive and Cambridge 5.1 DTT2500 sound system.
I get a lot of "noise" while manuvering around in windoz 2000 and on the net.
You know, loud pops, random distortion, etc. (although, during playback things seem to be normal).
I have tried installing an "infinity filter" that allows me to assign certain applications and hardware funtions to one or the other cpu but I have had only randon success (Creative Labs doesn't support SMP in WIN2000 Pro).
Short of trashing my SBLive card, any ideas?

do a search for this well known problem -- CL LIVE cards are well known for a long time to have issues on a dual system and there were special driver for them in such a case .. dell at one time used to host them ... this was a while back -- you would think the problem would have been fixed ...
but some people never could get that sound card to work 100% on a dual system and changed the card ..
try different slots also ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Problem solved!
I came across info on a MS "Affinity Filter Tool" that allows me to direct hardware and software to one cpu or the other. At the same website there was mention of "The kX Project", a combination of an audio driver to replace the SBL driver and a funky looking GUI designed for "audio geeks"(just kidding).
After assigning the new driver to "CPU 0", all the noise is gone and I have full 5.1 functionality which Creative does not support in SMP!

Err,
, I may have spoken a little to soon!
Really, I don't have a "major" problem, just a little nagging "issue".
Whenever I access the Internet from the desktop or change apps while "on-line", my volume control fluctuates greatly, example:
Boot-up, volume level consistent as to where I left it when I powered down.
Log-on to internet, loose center speaker (5.1 system) and approx 50% of volume or, volume goes to max (250 watts per channel) and my neighbors want to kill me at 3 AM!(ok, so I'm a night-owl).
Access through "start-programs-entertainment-volume control" and simply click on the "volume" far left, don't even alter volume control settings and everything goes back to "normal" most of the time.
Regardless, sound quality is the best I'v ever had with the SBLive Platinum 5.1 and Cambridge DTT2500 system in 4 years!
