Hello,
I am attempting to back up a DVD of a TV show. The disc contains many episodes menus and extras etc. I have been using this method http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/maestro2.htm , as I would like to keep the original menu structure without totally remaking the DVD. However, the resulting DVD plays back strangely. One episode when chosen from the episode-menu, begins playing about 30 seconds in and when you Click, "Play all" fast forwarding and chapter skipping results in freezing of the video. Anyone offer any insights or solutions. It would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks,
dfgh

what exactly are you wanting to do to the DVD. There are normally easier ways to do it than using something like Maestro
something like DVDLAB or TMPGenc DVD Author would probably be better to use. You can also use blanking tools and just remove the crap that way also
p.s. to anyone thinking of spending $xx,xxx on Maestro. If you can afford Maestro in the first place then you should make sure you know how to use it -
What I am trying to do Is back up a DVD of TV series I have using this method http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/maestro2.htm ; which is downsizing certain vobs by rencoding and reauthoring them and replacing the vobs on the original with them.I'd rather not using any all in one tools like DVDshrink etc because you don't learn anything that way. I could reauthor everything I suppose, but I don't want to do that either as it takes too long. Also I am very familiar with maestro.

it depends on the original structure as to how you would rebuild it. It sounds as if all the VOBU search info in the VOB's are a mess when you are using the FF/RW options
when you replaced the VOB's did you just use Get VTS or did you do a dummy strip using Ifoedit?
Get VTS won't fix the NAVPack values in the IFO either so that may be why it's a mess when you try to skip
it could also be a multi PGC title which is even more complicated to rebuild
good luck with it -
No I never did a dummy strip. I am not entirely sure what that is, but if it is what it sounds like, then it would get rid of the menu structure, which is something I wanted to keep intact. Also what are the signs of multi PGC, are there any tools or things that I should look out for that point to such?

a dummy strip won't get rid of menu's at all
. It updates all the VOBU pointers as well as fixing all the NAV Pack values in the IFO's. All you do is using the VOBExtras in Ifoedit and then use the strip VOB ID's options but keep everything so it's a mock strip
you can tell if it's a multiple PGC by looking in the IFO's by using Ifoedit and looking in the bottom window

what exactly are you doing to the DVD?, removing extras, trailers or warnings as there are a few tools available that make this process far simpler than using Maestro. Are you keeping the same audio/subs also when you reauthor and replace the VOB's?, as that will be another thing that will upset theVOBU pointers and NavPacks if you don't dummy strip -
All I am attempting to do, is downsize the vobs so that, this 7.10gb disc, will fit on a 4.7gb disc. Without using all All-in-one solutions and without totally rebuilding it.Also, I don't think it's multi PGC as all the other IFO's show similar to what follows:

what tools are you using and is it a multiple PGC and are you using CCE or something CCE related to shrink the VOB's?
it's a steep learning curve doing things the long way especially on multi PGC titles but it's not impossible. I'm sure there will be a few guides on this subject in the link on the left if you have a look
-
Yeah I'm using CCE to rencode the vobs then putting them into maestro to make them vobs again. I don't mind the learning curve it's the only way I actually learn anything.
-
there's a few CCE guides around and you don't need Maestro if it's a single PGC VTS as you just remux the CCE output back into the original VOB's using Ifoedit
trying to rebuild the VOB's in the same structure as the original with Maestro will be a nightmare if it's a multiple linked PGC
good luck -
DVDDecrypter will demux the VOB direct from the DVD
or you can use something like VOBEdit to demux VOB's on your Hard Drive
