  1. I looked in the media section, but there doesn't seem to be much feedback on which media burns well with the nec 3500a.

I am a newbie and the nec 3500a I just ordered will be my first burner. NEC has a very small, selective and expensive list of 8x discs, but does any one have experience with Ridata G05 or Prodisc 8x? Any other brands work well at 8X? Can I burn 4x discs at 8x and if so which ones burn reliably?

    Thanks from a newbie

  2. My 3500a burns 8X Optodisc DVD+R (code 1706-25 @ rima.com) just fine at 8X. It burns the 8X Taiyo Yuden DVD+R (rima code 1733-50) at a blazing 16X. Also 8X TDK DVD+R I bought at BestBuy burn fine at 8X.

  4. Meritline, where you can order disks, also keeps a list of what media writes @ what speed on what writer with what firmware.

  5. I've had a 3500 for about a month and I use either herrie's hacked firmware (2.17) or more recently Liggy's beta 5 firmware and can burn my memorex +R's (mediacode RICOHJPN01) at 12X...and My prodiscs R03's at 8X...Go to cdfreaks and check the NEC forums for more info...

  6. Thanks for the advice on which brand of disc. I look forward to burning some old home video soon.

I assume that everyone is happy with the nec 3500 burner, now that it is too late to change my mind

  7. A lot of places have a good price on Ritek G05s (-R) and I have had great Kprobe scans with these. Also, unlike Prodisc, which I used to swear by, you get the media code you expect. And yes, my 3500 burns anything I have better than my Pioneer 107D or my Liteon 812S. The only thing to compete with it would be the 108. Too bad it has no US support or firmware other than hacked or from Germany.
Still a few bugs in the system...
