I'm going from PAL to NTSC as a DV file. I managed to find a great software called firestore which does this with ease. However, I'm not sure if maintaining the aspect ratio is the standard thing to do here. Would people generally just crop or not??

I think the correct answer is neither.

Just resize the frame from 576 lines down to 480.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

Hmmmm, I don't have a choice, Firestore gives me 2 options. Crop or maintain aspect ratio. Thanks for the reply though.

I am afraid that unless you resize to 480 lines, you will spoil the TV aspect ratio.

In any case, you can try both (perhaps on a small part of the content) and see which one you prefer better.

Or you can try another tool.
