    Hello,

10 years is not very old for a video tape. Try borrowing a svhs vcr with a TBC stabilizer on it. That is the most recommended suggestion posted on this forum.

    Hello,

Sorry I don't have a screen shot. The tbc is a special control to stabilize old tapes. I don't have one I've just read about them in this forum. For a full definition check here:

    https://www.videohelp.com/glossary

They can be expensive so if you have friend or family member that has one you might try to borrow one.

By the way, I have tapes from before 1990 and they work just fine.

If the tape plays fine then you should be able to capture it and achieve it to dvd/cd depending on your hardware and software. The age of the source does not matter, it is the condition it is in.

Your computer hardware profile does not list anything but os, so how can we be of help

Assuming that you own the tape and have the right to create a backup achieve copy bear in mind that not all capture cards/devices will bypass macrovision or other copy protection

Please post a more descriptive explanation of problem, don't abbriviate your words and expect us to guess at what you mean. A few extra keystrokes on your part would help

A 10 year old VHS tape is a new tape! I have tapes from 1979 that plays OK even today!

    BOT (back on topic)

    Looks like Macrovision...
    Or,wrong capture settings..
    Or, PAL60...

    What TV system Singapore has?

Then: Or this tape is NTSC and the VCR makes it PAL60, or it is Macrovision.

If I recall correct, older Pinnacle cards, used to have bt8xx... So, the btwincap drivers might be a solution (can capture PAL60 and can overlook macrovision).

If it is not a bt8xx card, then Dscaler it might be a capture alternative IF works with this card (rare, but possible).

  10. Hi. It looks to me like a NTSC played on PAL or a quasi-Pal recording. Does your capture card support NTSC?
Speaking of old tapes, 10 years is nothing. I've done work with material 30 and 35 years old. And looking again, it's the kind of picture I used to get when watching NTSC satelite feeds on a PAL TV and recording them onto a PAL videotape.
I work with a lot of archival material, and believe, I've seen the strangest formats...

    All the best,

If it was NTSC, it wouldn't have colour...

    I believe it is PAL60...

I was going to suggest that too when I first saw this post, that green color is the same color green that the ATI would produce but not quite as bad. Check out the tops of frame 4 and 5 www.nepadigital.com/mv/

Hmm i using 3rd party prog.. either NTSC or PAL it doesnt give me problem with a more brand new tape than this 10 yr old tape

As i try using that program with my capture card to cap PAL or NTSC DVD/VCD format. everything is fine.

Hmm all i know this type is make in taiwan... if this tape is make in taiwan i think taiwan use NTSC format but My VCR player support NTSC/PAL/MESCEAM . Everything play just fine when i watch on TV

It only happen on when i want to capture in to AVI DVD mode.

  15. Sony said vhs starts to turn to fuzz around 15 years. I don't know if that is the case or not.

If you can get a panasonic dvd recorder, it can copy old vhs with stunning clarity as it has special filters.

  17. Your VCR may have a setting that lets you choose how NTSC tapes are played back. On my sony there is a switch on the back which says "NTSC" or "NTSC playback on PAL TV". This option may also be in the menu of the VCR if your model has one.
"NTSC playback on PAL TV" is PAL 60 mode and is harder to capture.
Change the setting to NTSC output, then capture in NTSC.
