  1. I am trying to edit MPEG-2 files using with MPEGSchnitt, originally recorded on my Philips 935A and ripped to my HD with DVDDecrypter, but I can't seem to get MPEGSchnitt to work. It will not recognize files with .MPG or .VOB extensions, and I do NOT know what extension to change my MPEG-2 files to in order for this program to work! Since this prog originally was written in German, this does not help matters either. I know, I could PURCHASE Womble, but I really would not like to go there at this moment and just rather would like to attend to the problem hand! So, MPEGSchnitt not working for me, I decided to trim the MPEG-2 files in DVD Workshop and then burn a DVD (I wanted to edit to get rid of the commercials). I checked not to re-render DVD compliant files, and I wrote both DVD compliant files to the respective two folders, as well as created an ISO image file using DVD Workshop. Well, while there was no re-rendering (or so it did not appear), the resultant two DVD burns (to +RWs on my HP 300n PC burner) BOTH exhibited stuttering video (analogous to what one sees with an old videotape that won't track properly) and no audio!! What could have gone wrong? Should DVD Workshop have re-rendered since I trimmed the clips in this program? I have never had this problem when I just use all of the clips I have WITHOUT trimming in DVD Workshop, but wonder if any of you also have experienced this or if I might have done something wrong? So, #1) How do I get MPEGSchnitt to recognize my MPEG-2s for editing AND #2) If this program is a bust, then (other than purchasing Womble) how could I get DVD Workshop to work properly if I want to trim clips within it? Since I do NOT have much need to edit MPEGs, this is why I rather would opt for the "FREEBIE" instaed of spending money on something that may never again be used??

Easiest way to tell if it's rerendering is watch the progrees dialog box, the first thing it does is convert the files. Steps 1 and 2.

What are you using to view the video, a standalone DVD player or your computer?

  5. Schnitt accepts demuxed mpg files (.mpv and .mpa) so you'll need to demux them first. I use DVDLab to do this but someone here might be able to suggest a free demuxer.
