hello, sorry if this topic is sort of outdated, but it's kind of emergency for me!.
i am a newbie with DVD thing completely, i just got a DVD burner from a friend, and i want to copy a entire movie DVD to a blank DVD+R, and I'm using Nero Utlra.
There's a option that says Copy Entire Disc... or something llike that. my question is can I just put the DVD inside my DVD-Rom and a blank DVD+R into my DVD burner and just burn it? will it work or not?
and if not, can i use Smart Ripper to rip it on my hard, and then just copy the files into a DVD+R using "Data" option in Nero?

Hi ramin,
There are forums for this (DVD to DVDR) as well as guides (DVD BACKUP - see left panel) - search / read those first and you'll find all the answers.
In short, here's the deal:

If you can, great, just take all the files and use Nero to burn a DVD type disc with all the files in the VIDEO_TS folder.
If you can't, you need to figure what to drop and / or re-author using something like DVDShrink to transcode (see glossary) the originals to a size that will fit on to a DVD5.
If you've got a dual-layer burner and media - no need to transcode.
The above are the basics, you will have questions - especially around which files need to be ripped (the VOBs, BUPs, IFOs etc.) - but the answers are in the forums and guides. Read before asking - you're more likely to get help.
Investigate, experiment, trial and error are also good ways to learn...

Don't forget the DVD Copying Methods sticky.
If in doubt, Google it. -
grrreat... thanks alot you guys, i'll figuree it out
. just another small question: is it enough to only copy the files inside VIDEO_TS?

No problem...
Yep - Rip everything from the VIDEO_TS folder. and then burn to the new VIDEO_TS folder.
The AUDIO_TS folder is a relic of directory design and is rarely used nowadays. There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

Dont forget to add in that making a copy of a DVD for a friend, if it's copyrighted, you're now not only violating the rules of the forums talking about it, but breaking the law.
Keep it clean here... Talk like that endangers the boards.

Hi
DVDShrink!!!
Load movie into one drive; blank into other. Open up DVDShrink. Go 'Open Disc'; will automatically compress to fit as DVD5. Press 'back up'. Select folder for temporary files. Burn. Will burn directly to the blank and also store a file on HD for further burning later.
Shrink will decrypt, compress, burn and also provide a back up copy. Pretty much all in a few clicks.
This is for a FULL disc copy. If you wish to strip it down, i suggest you look at the guides. -
Sometimes too much can be read into a statement just because we see too many people doing no no's even when NOTHING was actually said I think.

To get you started fast, download DVDshrink (free) and use that to shrink a DVD to fit a DVD -R disk, it does everything basically. I think the newest version will burn disks too if you have nero installed, but I use an older version that doesn't.
DVDshrink is about an all in one program, rip, shrink, and maybe burn. -
My personal experience with DVDShrink (the ripping functionality only) was that it regularly failed to break the encryption, and so wouldn't / couldn't rip the DVD - hence why I now regularly use either Smart Ripper or DVDDecrypter.
Otherwise, I've found DVDShrink to be great for everything else it does.
As I've got more adventurous with my ripping, I've also used MenuEdit and ifoedit. There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.
