VCD not recognized

Weird problem, some Buffy TVS episodes I downloaded burn ok as VCD with Nero and play fine on my standalone. Now though some only give me a blue screen on the TV (not in Windows )

I checked the mpg with mpegprop.exe and this program reports for the working MPG (ie. those that burn ok) that there is a video stream and a audio stream in the mpg. The non-working only report a video stream although they play fine on the computer with sound but just not as a VCD.

Anyone got an idea how to resolve this?

What player were you using to play on TV?

My standalone is a Pioneer DV-535. Plays almost anything. I've got lots of self ripped VCD and SVCD but only those episodes I downloaded got this problem. It's like there's only a video stream in the MPG file but when I play them on PC I've got sound too.
I've tried demultiplexing them and then transform the mp2 to a WAV which I then again converted to a MP2 file. Then I've tried multiplexing the old MV1 I got with this new MP2 file, but still only 1 stream shows up in the mpegprop.exe program and it still wont play.

I believe DV-535 is a non-US model. But it should be able to play PAL/NTSC VCD on PAL/NTSC TV.

Have you checked the following spec of the MPEG files?

Frame Rate: ~29 FPS(NTSC), 25 FPS(PAL)
Video Data Rate: 1150kB/s
Picture Size: 352x240(NTSC), 352x288(PAL)
Audio Data Rate: 192kB/s

You can check this using the Windows Media Player: Right Click on screen->Properties->Advanced->MPEG1 Video Decoder(double click).

I forgot the mention it is indeed a European model.
It can play both PAL and NTSC and NTSC film.
I have already burned 25fps, 23.976 and 29.97 fps vcd's and all of them play perfect (one of the advantages of living in Europe I guess ) The player is set to automatic so it decides on its own ...never failed.

This is what I got:
pic size 352 x 240
data rate : 0 bits/sec (??)
Frame rate : 23.97 frames/sec

nothing about audio though...but media player plays the mpg fine with sound ....I think the file's bewitched or something....

any suggestions ?

I really would love to be able to burn it as a VCD to add it to my collection (hehe it's a buffy episode)

Have you just tried dropping them into Tmpeg & used it as if U were encoding a dvd??? thats how I got one of those new startrek enterprise episodes to work on my eclipse DVD player.

Think I got a cure for it.

I loaded the MPG into virtualdub and then frameserved it (audio and video on direct stream) into TmgEnc ....tada...perfectly working VCD....Remains strange though or maybe some of these guys posting those episodes dunno shit about capturing film....
