    Hello,

I got a NES again! My sister and brother-in-law were in town this weekend. His father is recently retired and was cleaning out some closets and found the old nintendo. Word was passed down to me and I asked if I could have it and so I finally got it!!!

It's in very good shape. It came with Final Fantasy (original version), Dragon Warrior, and a couple others I can't remember right now. I went this morning to EB Games and bought Tetris (doesn't work at the moment), Super Marios Bros/Duck Hunt, Top Gun, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 - The Arcade Game.

I'm going to check out ebay for more 8bit nintendo games.

    Kevin
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

I love Dragon Warrior. What an addictive game that is And challenging until you can kill Goldmen with two hits.

  4. My local Goodwill had a ton of NES cartridges last weekend for a buck each. Found a copy of the original Mario Bros. My old NES is very finicky, though. 8 times out 10 it does that annoying flashing when trying to load a cartridge.

However, my latest thrill was finding a complete Atari 2600 system at that same Googwill a few months back. Was all there: console, powerpack, TV hookup, joysticks, paddles & *55* catridges! Brings back memories of the early 80's when I played Pac-Man for hours in my bedroom on a 13" B&W TV.

Try some rubbing alcohol on the cartridges.

  9. I have nine of the them!

    One mint in box!

    I also have

1 Top Loading NES (traded one)
    3 SNESs
6 Genesis' (two model ones, four model twos)
    3 Original Gameboys
    2 Gameboy Pockets
    2 Gameboy Colors
1 Boxed Odyssey 2 (system sucks, but the box was way too colorful to pass up)
    1 Boxed Atari 7800
    1 Boxed Atari 2600
    2 Intellivisions
    2 Colecovisions
    1 GameCube
    2 GBAs
    1 Dreamcast
    1 Game Gear
    3 N64s
    2 Playstations

And a few other things I can't remember, more games than I'll ever play (especially since I don't really play any of them any more), addons and peripherals out the a$$, manuals, propaganda, warranty cards, boxes, and even some candy.

And I just bought Perfect Dark new for five dollars at Toys R Us. I payed sixty bucks four years ago. Ain't that a bitch.

Also, more often than not, it's the console that's the trouble not the cartridges. What you have to do is open it up, and bend the pins back on the 72 pin connector. If the cartridge still gives you trouble, take a tooth brush and some CLR (I know it's corrosive, I don't care) and make those pins shine.

  11. Yeah, I know they're awesome. They're also expensive. The majority of this crap came from garage sales at less than ten bucks a pop.

There's no feeling in the world like finding a top-loading Nintendo with eleven game for four dollars.

    Damn, I'm a nerd.

My wife found a similar deal a few years ago. She found a clearance shelf and ended up getting an Atari 2600, an NES, and 50 assorted games for each, all for $10. When you look at how much that stuff cost new, that's insane. She walked in the house with this big box stuffed to the brim and said "You'll never guess the deal I got on this".

We had been looking for some old consoles to play some of the classics like Space Invaders, Pinball, etc. Jackpot!! Now our house has an X-box, PS, PS2, Sega Dreamcast, Atari Jaguar, Gamecube, NES, Nintendo 64, and Atari 2600. I wonder if we have enough friggin game machines

Actually, the Turbo Grafx 16 wasn't a 16bit console, it was still only 8bit. the "16" was based on some other aspect of it which was pretty meaningless. It was a huge misrepresentation of the product and I was so pissed when I found out. That console sucked so bad. The only cool thing was that it was the first system to support multiple players in games via an external box. There was this incredible wrestling game where you could play royal rumble with 8 players (human controlled) plus bots. Other then that, all the games sucked, though they were shaped really cool like a credit card.

I was the master at getting NES games to work. I would blow in the cartridge in such a way that it made this horribly loud whistling sound. After that, it would play everytime. The NES really goes to show you how unimportant graphics can be to a game. Some of the most enjoyable games to this day are still on the NES. I'd rather play Zelda then just about any pc or console RPG. I'd rather play contra or Life Force (highly underrated, one of the greatest 2 player games ever) then just about any other side/forward scroller. Rc Pro Am, Rygar, Mega Man series are all great too. NES has some of the best sports games too... Mario Golf, baseball and all star baseball, Double Dribble, and the two kings of all sports games ever... Tecmo Bowl and Blades of Steel.

You sure about that, it came out right before the genesis and looked on par with the genesis.

Edit: I found this "NEC's first video game system looked 16-bit, sounded 16-bit, but in reality, it was 8-bit to the core. Though its main CPU was 8-bit, the chips that handled its graphics and sounds instructions were 16-bit, making the system look like a 16-bit system at first glance"

I had that wrestling game it was cool, I remember that one. I played football a lot, there was a F-1 racing game too that I played a lot. Some othe game that was similar to gauntlet, I remmeber it well. There was one part that had a Pink Floyd tune as the background music.

TG had a lot of other features that were firsts. There was a add-on you were able to purchase that allowed you to save games, the add on also had stereo RCA jacks. There was also a handheld version with a color screen that doubled as a TV.

  17. Well they used to sell for around fifty bucks on eBay (that's not that much as say, my top-loader, but I am one cheap bastard), but I see the prices have dropped a bit.

    Hmm...

I still have my original NES that my dad bought for Christmas back in 1989. It still works to this day; ive taken very well of it for all those years.

As for those connectors for the NES where you have trouble with the flashing screen, Ive been reading that you can actually replace the 72-pin connector of the NES if youre electronically inclined....and its not hard to replace either. Ive seen those connector replacements on Ebay. Worn out connectors are the number one reason why the games seem to flash and blink when you try to turn them on....because they've been inserted and removed so many times.

  19. Mentioning the TG16, I had one of those but sold it about 10 years ago. My favorite game was Bonk's Revenge. About this caveman dude w/ a big head that he used to pound all his enemies. Prehistoric headbanger?

My NES does flash but has been in storage for years. Only pulled it out a few days ago after getting those cartridges. Guess I'll take it apart and clean the headers. Did the top-loading one fair better? I remember seeing those after the SNES came out, but never got one.

And hey, I know it's not a dedicated gaming system, but my all-time favorite was the C64. Still got one of those set up to this day w/ all the accessroies and *three* huge boxes of software (cart, tape & disk) and a bunch of programming manuals.

  20. TurboGrafx was a cool system, I had one and quite a few games. Some of the games that I remember playing were Ninja Spirit (very cool game), Bonks Adventure and Bonks Revenge, and Kid Courage in Alpha Zones.

I also have a Neo Geo with about 10 games, and damn those games were/are expensive!

My favorite Neo Geo games were the Fatal Fury series, King of Fighters, World Heroes, Samurai Shodown, and the sports games were sweet too, I love Super Sidekicks 2 & 3.

Yeah those top loading Nintendos are nice to have, I had one of those years ago (~1990) and gave it to a cousin.

I wish I would've kept it... well the bright side is that the crappy regular NES helped me develop strong lungs as a child from having to blow into the games

  21. Funny you mention NES. I have my last one one ebay right now along with my last SNES. I was a big collector years ago but I've sold off about all my "post-atari" stuff. the blinking can be cured with a new connector (about $10 ebay). You can hand tighten the connector yourself as well (pain in the ass but do-able). Good NES games include Excitebike, Dragon Warrior series (I sold all 4 on ebay a few years back), a lot of Koei's games, Baseball Stars (&2). Fun, maybe I'll look up more and list them

Speaking of 8bit characters thanks to another forum I visit I found a way to pass some of the tons of free time I have at work overnights.

As far as NES, if you have TENGEN Tetris it rules. Very hard to find.

Yeah Mega Man was one of the best. It seemed to lose some of its magic on the newer consoles. I had 3-6 when I had my first nintendo. I sold it 8 or 10 years ago thinking I'd never use it again. Sorry I did.

Battletoads was another personal favorite. Along with the Ninja Gaiden series.

I've done that for awhile but there's nothing like the original. Holding the nonergonomically correct controllers (man there SMALL compared to newer ones like the XBOX). And the quality can't match the real thing. (nostalgia too )

For an original 8bit nintendo controller? I've not seen one. The thing I'm talking about was an actual mod to the controller.
