  1. Hello Folks,
Wonder if you can help. I’m new to creating VCDs but seem quite proficient at making frisbees.

When I burn a movie it seems to start to play OK, but then very quickly the picture starts to freeze and jerk and the sound cracks. It basically becomes un-viewable on my DVD player, but yet it plays OK on my PC. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hardware
    -----------
    1.8Ghz cpu
    ½ Gig ram
LG DVD CD R/W Combo 32x10x40
    Panasonic DVD/CD Player DVD-S35

    Software
    -----------
    W2K
    AVI/MPEG/ASF/WMV Splitter v3.22 – Trail Version
    TMPGEnc 2.5 – Trail Version
    Nero 5 - V 5.5.8.3

    Here’s my process…

I obtain source video, normally in AVI format. I split the AVI using Splitter. I then encode using TMPGEnc into VCD – PAL format. I then use the Nero wizard to creat a video CD and burn.

As I have said it plays well on my PC but does not play with any form of quality on my DVD Player.

    What Am I doing wrong?

I choose all the defaults when using each tool; do I need to tweak settings?
Is there any know problems with my hardware?

I have done a bit of reading on this but still end up making coasters…

Help please, and sorry about the really long 1st post.

    Cheers,
    Dave

Your method seems OK. You might try different media, though with CDs, that not as important as with DVDs.

A program you might try is TheFilmMachine. It's a simple program that works well with AVI to VCD or SVCD or DVD converstion. If your source AVIs are XVIDs or DIVX, it's an easy way to go.

Since they work good on your computer I would suggest it's the standalone player. As red suggested changing media might help, you could also try to specify a slower rate to burn the disc.

  4. Hi Guys,
Thanks for your help. Here is the latest installment on howto make xmas tree decorations...

OK, the above was where I have been, but it was well past time to clean up my system, so that what I done... clean install, carefull patching, etc. The box is as clean as a whistle.

I took onboard what some of you have mentioned and drop the burn speed to x8.

That almost worked. I now have great video but no audio

So I checked with TMPGEng and sure enough, there was no adio source.

To get this movie to play I had to install the following -
    XviD-1.0.2-29082004
    tag2000audio

I'm now going to try a different movie and check that TMPGEng captures the audio. Then I will try burning that at x8. Its failed before.

Any ideas on why I never got audio ? I assume its to do with the codecs I installed.

Just a suggestion but try looking into a program called DVD2SVCD it can do VCD and SVCD and DVD output. And I think it should accept your file with the right codecs installed.

  6. Problem solved folks.

Think it was dropping down to x8 burn that done it.

I solved the audio problem by installing AC3ACM.

    Thanks for all your help.
