The easiest way to test if your settings are correct is use the source range function and set it to do a 30 second or 1 minute sample encode and let it run right through till it is finished. If you are confident your settings are right then you just untick the source range box and let it go to town.

Try this.
The files may have been 'temporarily' stored in the Temp folder. This is usually C:\Documents and Settings\'Username'\Local Settings\Temp.
Click on Tools, Folder options, View and then scroll down and click 'Show hidden files and folders'. They may be in there.
If you are doing VBR and then first pass is only analyzing. If it crashed then usually any temp files would be deleted. Just check the size of your hard-drive, as it suddenly reduced? If so, they should be there.
I always create a folder, give it a name and then i know where anything and everything will be, if a problem occurs. It's just tidier and easier for me-maybe a thought?
