  5. if PC reads/writes from/to same harddisk during encoding, maybe try reading from one and write to other harddisk

Have you turned off all power management? If the timing is relatively consistent, then it's unlikely to be something random like an actual fault. And have you observed what's going on? Is it shutting down, or just blinks straight off from the desktop? Hard to guess what could be happening with so little info..

Also are you capturing always around the same time? There was a power glitch here every morning around 7 until Food Lion shut down, caused when they turned on the store and the air handlers kicked in. Do you have a UPS to preclude it being a power fault?

Try not to overclock and see if the problem goes away.

This definitely sounds like overheating. Install Speedfan and set it to log results. Then encode til it crashes and report back with the log results.

You could have a broken fan, or it may not be getting enough power. Or your heatsink may not be installed properly.

I have the same crashing problem because my comp is DYING. How I get the job done ANYWAY is that I encode only a half hour of the movie at a time using the splitting tool. I find that my comp doesn't act up if its separate batch jobs rather than one long one. I just use the mpeg joiner tool to quickly join the finished pieces at the end.

(Yeah I know it's time to buy a new comp but i'm cheap).

  10. Have you run Memtest on the machine ?

I had a similar problem although My machine would restart @ 98% complete.
Found that I had some some dud memory. Replaced and all was good again.

I'd also support the heat issue as well.
