  1. Ive only recently started making my own dvds and have learned and seen a few different techniques used by you lot to burn your dvds.

but what is the best way.

i want my dvds to play and as many standalone dvd players as possible but what is the best way to do this for avi files ive downloaded.

is it best to convet the avi file to mpeg2 and then burn that to the dvd

burn the avi straight to the dvd

or create vob files by running the avi files through ulead dvd creator for example and then burning the vob files?

    or another way ?

    thanks

I usually convert AVIs with TMPGEnc and author with TMPGEnc DVD Author. Burning, usually NERO. What you burn with is not that important (IMO) as the media you are using and somewhat the brand of the burner.

For quick and easy XVID to DVD, I use TheFilmMachine with CCE as the encoder.

You must convert your avi to mpeg first and then properly author that to a DVD if you want maximum compatibility. I suggest you try one of the excellent guides, click on the "all guides" link on the left side and search avi to dvd under format conversion.
