can you burn a plain VCD on a DVD+R or would it have to be an SVCD? My sister wants to burn a bunch of episodes (if not all) of "The O.C." on some DVD+R's but im not really sure how to do it and i have a few questions.
1) (already asked but) does it haveta be an SVCD or can it be a VCD?
2) would i haveta use a DVD burner to burn on a DVD+R even though im only burning mpegs on a DVD+R?
The reason why i ask if it hasta be a SVCD is cuz my sisters DVD player only plays VCD's and not SVCD's.

Hello,
You could try the "svcd header trick" found in the guides to the left <---. Also you could use Tmpgenc Dvd author and it will automatically convert the audio for you and you will be able to put the vcd mpeg on dvd. Otherwise check the convert guides for "svcd to dvd". Theres a ton out there.

sorry i dont know if this changes anything but im not taking a VCD movie from a VCD CD, my sister has recorded epsides in mpeg format so im wanting to burn those on a DVD so it plays as a VCD in her DVD player.

Hello,
If they are mpeg just load them into any dvd authoring program. They should convert them to mpeg2 standard for you. If you want to save space and have them as "vcd on dvd" use Tmpgenc dvd author and it will just convert the audio to 48000hz for you (dvd audio standard).

I did one earlier from 2 VCD's. I used ISOBuster to extract the video, then demuxed the video and audio with TMPGEnc MPEG Tools, converted the 44.1khz MP2 to 48khz AC3 and then authored the whole lot together with TMPGEnc, including chapters and menus.
As long as the video is VCD or SVCD spec. it should work OK. -
thanks for the quick replies. So just use TMPGEnc DVD Author and it will convert the sound from 44 to 48 then open my burning program (Nero Express 5.5 oem version) and burn them as a VCD?
Is there any guide to show how to convert the sound from 44 to 48 or if its easy enough, could some1 just explain to me. -
I don't get why you still want to create a VCD. First of all, you have MPEG-1 files right? Well, if you are making a VCD so it can play on the DVD player, just burn them by using Nero and remember to select "VCD."
You also mentioned in your first post you want to burn these MPEG-1 to DVD+R. If you do that, then you are making a DVD. You should follow what they say: input the MPEG-1 files into TMPGEnc DVD Authoring. Once you add the files, there will be a checkbox that says to re-convert the audio, select that. Then author in that same program. And you can also burn in the same program. If you want to burn in Nero, remember to select "DVD". Don't select "VCD" if you are putting this on a DVD+R! -
the reason i asked is cuz im a noob at this stuff... how would i know i had to convert the audio etc, i prolly woulda just burnt a normal VCD on DVD.

I know. First of all, you should be creating a DVD, not a VCD since you want this to play on the DVD player, right? You have several MPEG files. First, open TMPGEnc DVD Author and add your MPEG files one by one. A screen will pop up. In that screen where it says "Audio" there will be a checkbox that says to re-convert the audio. Check that for all of your MPEG files. After that, if you want to make a menu, go ahead. If not, select "No Menu" and your MPEG will play in order. Then, author it. Now you get these two folders:
VIDEO_TS
AUDIO_TS
If you want, you can use TMPGEnc DVD Author to burn as well. There should be an option for you right after you finish authoring. If not, open Nero, select "DVD", and drag your VIDEO_TS folder into the VIDEO_TS folder in Nero. Then burn to DVD+R.
Edit:
And yes you need a DVD burner for this. -

grr, i use DVD Decrypter to burn my movies and DVD Decrypter only burns ISO files. I only have the trial version of TMPGenc DVD Author so i hope it still brings the option of burning it too or else i dont have a program to burn =[. My version of Nero doesnt recognize my DVD burner (version 5.5.9.9) and yes ive tried the Nero 5.5 update but it still doesnt recognize it maybe cuz its an external drive (plextor px-504uf).

I'm sure TMPGEnc DVD Author would still do good as a trial. And, you can burn with that too. After it authors, just click the open burner button.
