IBM 1701 anyone? Or a newer one like the 360-20 or 370-145?

I worked for Sears as a computer operator (a looong time ago before going back to school) and they still had a "whirling garbage can" in the back room (magnetic drum storage)

    Hello,

Ahh.. 640k! The nemesis of old dos gaming! I remember the battles well. You know how hard it was to always have the right amount of virtual memory available? Thank god for boot disks!!!

This used to piss me off to no end. Some games never cooperated. I often had a stack of 25+ bootdisks laying around.

    Check out these specs:

Commodore PET 2001 (Personal Electronic Translator) was Commodore's first computer after purchasing MOS Technologies. Featured chiclet style keyboard and built-in cassette recorder. Designed primarily by Chuck Peddle. First version had only 4Kb RAM and subsequesnt models increased RAM to 8Kb, 16Kb and 32Kb repectively.

    SPECIFICATIONS: NAME Commodore PET 2001
    MANUFACTURER Commodore
    TYPE Business Home Computer
    ORIGIN USA
    YEAR 1977
    OPERATING SYSTEM Commodore BASIC v1.0
    CPU 6502
    SPEED 1MHz
    RAM 4Kb
    ROM 14Kb
    TEXT MODES 40x25
    GRAPHIC MODES Mono
I/O PORTS IEEE488, parallel, 8-bit port, cassette port

These were pretty popular. Since it's a Motorola CPU, does that make it a Mac predecessor?

  6. Google has Usenet (text groups) archived from the time the Internet started to present...so this is probably one of the best sources for the info you're seeking.
