I used to watch tons of movies in the theaters before I got married. My friend and I even had a website where we rated the movies and even videos we watched, along with our commentary on it. They would promote us on WBER (can still listen to radio at WBER.monroe.edu via streaming audio), and we'd get free rentals at a place called Pick-A-Flick. I had a set budget of $1200 a year just to watch movies in the theater. I love seeing movies in theaters. Everyone talks about downloading and ripping discs. To me half the glory is owning the original artwork covers and discs and having seen it on the BIG SCREEN with an excellent sound system. Absorbed in the dark and pulled into the movie, while munching on Sour Patch Skittle and Milk Duds. Maybe a tub of Popcorn, if it's not too expensive.

  3. Saw it. CGI looks like it was "stolen" from a Jules Verne novel and cheapened up.

If you liked tomb raider or van helsing then this CGI overloaded film with its
minimalistic and linear plot may appeal; although even in that company it is the lesser film
    of the group.

You can't help wondering just how much the Japanese would have been able to improve
    it with the same resources.

    one & a half stars.

From what I understand, they intentionally made some of the items look classic or what it may have been like to do CGI in the 1920s. They didn't want to modernize it the way most of Hollywood does. I think a lot of film studios are realizing Hollywoods gotten a reputation for imbellishing events and many other things. Part of it is good, but lately, most of it is bad when they are trying to bring back nostalgic stories and heroes. Think of Godzilla 2000. In all honesty, Godzilla 2000 was a great update of a manoster, but it wasn't what we know as Godzilla (the storyline didn't help much either).

I didn't say I hated it. I just thought they needed to work on the script a bit and it wasn't Godzilla for me. Maybe if they made a funny reference that the monster looks like the movie monster Godzilla and made the move in that direction.......

    Hello,

Did you see they're going to have all the movies in one box set in Japan???? 20 or more for like a $1,000!!! It's HUGE! Still I would like to see Godzilla 1985 released on dvd here in the US.

I saw it, but I don't think it's going for $1000. I was seeing it around an equivalent of $350+ USD per set. I heard that a Digital Revamp Boxed Set may be here in the US sometime soon. It should be around $250+.

    Hello,

Would it have 1985???? That was the best of the newer ones.

I liked the Sony Godzilla with Broderick. It was fun. Lots of good ACTION.

The Boxed set should have everything, even Godzilla 2000. I think they are trying to do the same thing UA did with the 007Bond Sets. A small agreeance has to be made to make money for all parties involved.

    Hello,

Well I finally saw "Sky Captain" today. It was GOOD!

It wasn't the best action film I've ever seen but the quality was quite excellent.

3.7 out of 5 (the .7 since some elements were clearly derived from other movies - but still quite original on its own)

The acting wasn't that stellar but acceptable. It could have used a little more humor but it was balanced. The special effects were quite good. It had a combo feel of Star Wars/Indiana Jones wrapped in a 1940's feel.

It was quite unique in its alternate history approach. It's set in the 40's but with a scifi twist that I won't elaborate as thats the fun of finding out yourself.

Definetly worthy if you like scifi/action flicks.
