Just got my MG back from the garage, head gasket had gone as I suspected, although I'd been hoping not and had I got it checked out when I first figured I'd have saved myself a few quid.
Still no accounting for stupidity in the Will Hay household.
Absolutely no compression in one and two (four cylinders) but man it flies now.

Down £364.00 (circa. $700) but that included a replacement heater matrix.
Thought it was gonna be more money, so some good news I suppose

    Nice looking wheels there, Will.

I blew a head gasket or two in my teenage years. (of course I just blamed it on the old engine and not the drivers foot)

Now that I got that out of my system, and repair prices have become outrageous, I'm content with the 5-10mph over the limit thing... most police let you go for that. It was the 20-30mph over thing that always seemed to piss them off....

What shooze, you're telling me it's my fault and the way I drive it???!?!??!?!??
    Shit, if only I'd known

    Craig,
This is my third summer and touch wood (touches head) she's been fine.
The mechanic said the cills are on their way (bad news!) but **** it, I'm 33 and love driving her, I use it daily including winter and even though I've no money to fix her up when she needs it (down to one income and up two kids; as you know) I'll find a way.
She was purchased using £3.5k of profit from one year of ebay trading (all 1970's vintage action men) so my wife is pretty cool with it, it's not like I robbed the joint account for it.

I've always loved old cars, I think I was born at the wrong time.
I used to have an MG midget but always wanted the Roadster, the real MG
Sad I know, but she was produced the same year as me, 1971, although she's looking the better!

LOL! That's why I gave you the 'out' there with my 'old engines' comment...

I just sold my '86 Porsche 944 back in March of this year... I had too - my driving it was leading towards hefty repairs.... I'm surprised with how many times I had the tach pegged on it, that it didn't blow the entire engine right out of the hood, over the top of the car, and land in the lap of the drivers behind me!

(...sigh.... I miss that little car! )

I'm jealous of Will's wheels there.... I've always liked the small sports cars... That 944 ran like a champ, no matter how hard I ran it....

    Now you're talking!!

But if you look close enough - she's still wearing her pants in that picture... the outline of the creases show in the dirt!

    I used to own a 1967
I rebuilt it from the ground up.
I shaved 20mm off the head and the first time I jumped on it after breaking in the chrome rings, I blew the head gasket. The one I installed first was brass coated fiber around the cylinders. The second one was brass coated metal.

I had it for about 6 months then a drunk driver rear ended me and totaled the thing out. The inpacted broke the back of my seat off as I hit the rear window (port hole hard top)

I think I still have a great carburator book around here some where...SU carbs were great to work on.

BTW, I lost the front left wheel once...knock off striped right off. A cop and I lifted the car as my friend put it back on....LOL
