Hello all, I have just got Sony Vegas 5, I also have Pinnacle 7 and obviously Windows Movie Maker.
When i go to capture, none of these can see my camera.
Device manager can under Imaging devices. I have un-installed the camera and Firewirecard and re-installed them both successfully. but still no luck.
any thoughts
Thx
Paul

There is/was a Windows update for Panasonic cameras that was NOT distributed with the normal routine Windows updates....you had to search for it.
It also apparently is not for Panasonic cameras only...my XP Pro would not recognize my Canon...installed the update and now it does. -
Thanks, anybody know where i can get this.
One thing i forgot to mention is that it has only happened since i updated to SP2
Thx

There was another thread in the computer forum with the same issue. Uninstalling SP2 fixed it.

I had a similar problem with my Panasonic, WinDV works good. It says no capture device found until I hit the capture button, then it connects and works. Also I installed the Panasonic DV codec, which works with any DV cam. I also have SP2 installed. Hope this helps.

Damn...un-installing SP2 seems a bit drastic to me. Keep plugging away...you'll get it.

Okay, i have done everything i know
Un-installed SP2
Un-installed all programs related to this and re-installed
Un-installed the firewire card
Installed the Panasonic codec mentioned above
What else can i do ? -
Not possible to uninstall SP2. To do that, you need to reformat the hard disk and reinstall Xp. I suggest you remove all other PCI cards(if any) and install the Firewire card and driver. Check the Device Manager and see if the driver is there. If still doesn't work, turn off pc and switch firewire card to another PCI slot.

It was working fine until i installed that pile of rubbish.
Please please please, somebody get my Camera to work
Thx

I am convinced it is not the card
The pc can see it
The pc can see my camera
Just the 3 programmes Pinnacle 7, Sony Vegas 5 and Windows movie maker can't
It is driving me insane -
I'd love to find a permanent solution to this problem also. Sometimes my Computer will finally read my Sony DV Cam after several minutes of trying to fidget with the connections and restarting the computer and standing on my head while I drink a special witches potion. (OK the last part I madeup but it conveys the hassle I always have to go through to finally get the camera recognized so that I can capture my video onto the harddrive.) We are not alone in this problem.
And now this weekend, I cannot get my computer to read the camera at all. I know its not the camera since it shows the connection has been made. My device manager to my computer shows the firewire port is enabled. I am even able to use the firewire port with other devices without a problem. I may have to go back to capturing the video into an old Dazzle II Video Capture device although that only captures video by MPEG 2 and I want to be able to capture in AVI into my Vegas Editing Program.
ANYBODY HAVE ANY SOLUTIONS TO THIS PROBLEM? -

I have tried everything now
I knwo it is not my camera or my card because i took them and tried them on another pc and it worked fine.
That was on XP home with Service Pack 1
I know SP2 has corrupted something (or at least i am damn sure it has), the thing is, how do i find out what it is.
I have removed SP2 now but am sure the corrupted file is still installed somewhere.
I can see the i am using the older drivers that has been mentioned.
Short of doing a complete new install on my pc, i don't know what to do.
Please please please think of something.
Cheers

Have you tried the manufactuter's site. If your having troubles others are too.

Fear not, i found the answer
Thx everybody for trying
Here is the answer should anybody else need it.
Open the RUn dialog from Start > Run
Type in (or copy paste): regsvr32 %windir%\system32\qdv.dll
and press OK
it should result in a dialog:
---------------------------
RegSvr32
---------------------------
DllRegisterServer in C:\WINNT\system32\qdv.dll succeeded.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Press OK. After that try to capture -
Similar problem here with my Canon Elura (one of the earliest models, from 2000). After SP2, the camera was simply not recognized anymore. At first I tried the usual troubleshooting: cable, Firewire card, etc., but it was only when I uninstallled SP2 (easily done via Add/Remove Programs BTW) that the camera was recognized again.
