Hello!
Is there a way to remove the sound from an AVI-file? I want to publish som small videos at my homepage, but the size must be reduced a lot!
The AVI-file is recorded in "full size"format (I can watch it on TV), but for a webpage there is no need for sound, and it can also be seen in a smaller "window".
Thanks in advance.

Hi rug_0573,
It looks like you can do this with VirtualDub.
1. File - Open Video File - Open your AVI
2. Audio - No Audio
3. Video - Direct Stream Copy
4. File - Save as AVI
At work now so I can't test it.
Anothe idea - Why not encode AVI to MPEG1 format (with Tmpegenc) as this should reduce the file size.
Good luck,

try using windows movie maker and put it on 512kb/s
you get files of about 3.5megabytes for each minute of video
quality is not as good as xvid but from a decent source is comparable to a vcd -
Rug,
No problem - hope it works !!
In Tmpgenc you can choose to make an MPeg without sound - The option is "Video Only".
Cheers,

In trying to reduce the file size, removing audio should be the last resort. Audio, if compressed properly, can occupy as little as 128kB per minute. Using VirtualDUB, convert audio to Mono, 22050Hz and 9 bits. Then encode that to MP3 at 16kbps. Should give you about 128KBytes per minute of audio which is nothing compared to the 2Mbytes per minute (min) for watchable video.
Also, use VirtualDUB to perform a high quality reduction in size (Lancos) to make in like 320x240 then encode that either to DivX or xVid (with VirtualDUB) or MPEG-1 with Tmpgenc.
The problem with MPEG-2 files is that a PC will normally not have a suitable decoder - unless they downloaded and installed one or they have a DVD s/w player that allows it's decoder to be used by other applications (like Windows Media Player).
However, MPEG-1 files can be played on every PC.The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
