  1. Hello

I have a avi file coded with MJPEG codec. It's splitted in 4 parts, each around 3 - 5 GB.

Playing these parts with Windows Media Player or PowerDVD is no problem, it works very good.
But I want to convert it to DIVX4 and make smaller file out of the 4 files.

When I open the AVI file with V.D. it doesn't show me the frames. There is no error message while opening the file, and I can scroll with the scrollbar on bottom - but I don't see any pictures, it just says "decompression error -367" at the message line on bottom.
When I try to SAVE and recompress the file I get a message like:

"Can not convert to RGB. This is an very unusual error, please be sure that you disable the option 'force YUV2' when encoding the avi"
But I can not create the original avi files again.

When I try to split the 4 files together (without recompression) I get one big file, but there is something wrong with the timestamps or whatever - it's not possible to move forward in the video - the player will stop immediately and writes "illegal file format"

What can I do? Why do the videos work perfectly with WMP or PowerDVD, but V.D. can't decode them?

Thanks for any help... maybe someone knows another freeware like virtual dub?

  3. Thanks for your reply. I'll try this software.
Anyway - I think I have the right codec installed, because PowerDVD, Windows Media Player can play the avi, AND I can encode it with TmpgEnc (but only to MPEG2, I want a DIVX4 file)

Only Virutal Dub can't handle this file.
