Ok if any of you read some of those ridiculousliy long posts I did on this R200 printer, CIS systems, Tanks, Ect... You know I been looking into alot of things for this printer.
Anyone that has empty R200 tanks they want to send me can PM me for an address,
Supposedly the OEM carts cannot be refilled as I read on a site that sells ink to refill carts! Why I don't know yet, and that's what I want empty OEMS for. My set is still more than 1/2 full on all tanks! If need be I will actually cut apart a tank and see why it's not supposed to be refillable! I mean THEY put the ink in some how, so it can be done I would think!
Also after market carts for the R200. If you have empties you want to send, I'll experiment on those too.
It costs about $1.25 or less for the ink to refill a cartrig depending on the volume you buy the ink in. $6-$8 per refilled set would be really getting the price down there for those who do alot of printing. Compared to the lowest price of about $23 I've seen that's still alot of savings.
Also in refilling your own tanks you have a choice of what types of inks you want to use, Dye, pigments, Sublimination inks, UV resisent inks etc...
From what I have found so far looks like the printer may be very versital for other uses by the type of inks that can be used.
I have found Auto Reset Chips also, but the USA retail costs so far are about $15 each, $90 a set is too much!!! I have found (but not contacted yet) China producers of Auto Reset chips, also CIS systems.
Getting some prices is on my TO DO list, but I have been too busy with other stuff.
It should not be hard or expensive to build a CIS system if the chips can be gotten for a reasonable cost.
So, if you have empties you want to send for experimenting on, I will provide back any info I find for a low cost solution to cartrig prices.
I'll do my best to provide back something usefull in return.
It may just be info? Depending on the results, perhaps some filled tanks?
Should only cost you about $1 for postage to send them to me.
So worst case is you lose the dollar, best case you get info that saves you a ton of money! So if your interested, PM for an address to mail the tanks.

They have carts for $3.79 each.
Well worth the agrevation of refillijng them and re-setting the chip unless you have always full chips.
I bought a bunch from them as I print a lot. They work perfectly.
Howevver, i looks like you are like me. Curious!!!! I think I will open open my next empty one and do a little exploring as well. I agree 100% you . If they were originally filled, they should be able to be re-filled by us. Even if a modification of sorts is needed. I filled carts for Epsons for years. Eventually you need fresh carts as after about 3-4 cycles they don't seem to do well. I ultimatelly ended with two clogged machines but not till after a couple years of super heavy work out of both.No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
Yep those Megatoners are pretty low cost, but still about $20 a set compared to $8 refilling. And maybe add another $4 for shipping, maybe not. So a $14-$18 savings each time you refill your own.
I'm also looking at the fact you can choose the type inks you refill with like using a pigment ink or even a UV resistent ink. Kinda over kill for disks but good for other stuff.

offline,
Thanks for the picture. In all my checking I have not found it myself.
I wonder why then the place selling ink for refilling clains they cannot be refilled? They do sell generics and also empty tanks the say are refillable. Maybe just trying to push they're refillable tanks, but I delt with them before and they don't seam that way.
Have you ever refilled them yet? -
Anyone tried the refill method mentioned above by offline? If so could you please post your results. Thank you.
Thank You,
GolfNut -
I suspect the only successful method of refilling these carts will be using the "Negative Pressure" technique. This website details the construction of the Epson 2200 carts and the technique to fill them. I think this will apply to the R200 carts as well... Negative Pressure Refills

Umbearto thanks for reply. The link in your reply does not work can you send a different link.
Thank You,

Yes thanks for that link.
Maybe I won't be needing many to cut up now
Naw, probably totally different,
I'll have to read more of that site and take another look at the carts in my R200. Been so long since I installed them I forgot what they actually looked like, are those the same? -

That might be the the way to go then if they work good and are easy to refill.
Just buy a set or 2 and refill those instead of messing with the Epsons.
Where/what after market carts you get? -
Yeah, and what/how exactly does the chip re-setter work? Is it an electrical thing or a mechanical thing?

I got a chip resetter on ebay for much cheaper than the sites($8 including shipping). It works great even on the original carts. Its a battery operated thing thats easy to use. Takes about 3 seconds to reset.
I basically follow these instructions.
http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/c84refill.html
My carts are G&G but they are made the same. They use a sponge instead of the system the originals use. Here is what I do thats a little different from the instructions.
1. Use a safety pin to make the hole at the fill point.
2. Using a syringe/needle to fill the cart.
3. I slowly squeeze ink in as I push and pull the needle in and out. This allows air to escape as the ink goes in. I thought about making the whole bigger but haven't yet. If you don't do this the air will make the cart seem full when its not.
4. When a drop or two of ink start to fall out the bottom exit port your done.
5. I close the fill hole with tacky glue that can be pealed off on the next fill. Kinda like Elmers glue. I have recently started using electrical tape instead of glue. Seem to work just as good.
6. It takes about a day for the ink to fully soak into the sponge. You could probably add more ink but I haven't tried it yet. It's best to have two sets of carts so your not down for the one day.
I've refilled my carts about 4 times with no problems. Prints look great. Got my ink from Mediastreet.
I have 4 syringes. One for black, one for yellow, one for the reds, and one for the blues. -
dmagic1 where did you buy the g&g carts? Couldn't find them on the link in your post, only refill instructions there. Thanks.
Thank You,
GolfNut -
Oh, sorry.
I got them from http://www.catalog800.com/.sc/ms/sch/1090634898741934/9/nc/ee?search=epson+r200&go.x=10&go.y=5
This is a very good site. I've used them for some time. They use to ship everything Priority 2 Day mail. My last order was regular mail but still was pretty fast. -
Yes thanks!
I geuss we have it all solved now basically. Cheap carts and refilling both!
That's what I was looking for when I started this post basically.
Now as far as a CIS would go, could probably use those same type carts posably and build your own. Autoreset chips can be bought for $15 each and are easy to install to a cartrig, though way too costly at that price.
So if a person finds cheap auto resetting chips you might be all set, or build a CIS and when the chips read low just remove cart and use a chiprestter.
At least you would never actualy run out of ink and ruin a print, or be in the middle of a job and have to totally refill, just reset and go!
Course just as easy to have a second set ready to install! -
dmagic1, where do u get ur ink refill bottles? same site as cartidges ?
-
Mediastreet

I got my syrings and needles from a mom and pop drug store. The larger chains either didn't have the right size or were picky about selling them without a perscription. I guess too many drug addicts nowadays. -
Ya for the little syringes really thin I have used insulin syringes, about a $1 in a 10 pack. If you need bigger ones either medical type work if you can get them (but they are really sharp) or go any place that sells Farm animal type supplies. You can get some realy big ones for giving shots to dogs, cats, and even cows (Sharp point too)
www.mediastreet.com
Looks like a good place, haven't order yet, but I have been looking at some specailty inks and papers there also. -
Since I'm in Florida, i can just wait til high tide and I can get my syringes for free
