Ah yes, Grand Theft Auto...quite possibly one of the best games ever created....but I do admit, I use the ammo cheat codes all the time. Game sucks when you have no bullets to fire back. But that's the only cheat I use.

I don't need to download most of my plates, I've got them for the midwest in my flight bag. Expensive things those, and at least with FS2004 you aren't required to update them every other day.

Have you looked into joining a virtual airline since you spend so much time flying? Also check out the VATSIM network so you can have ATC sim guys to work with when you fly. Pretty fun times for nowhere near the money it cost to do the real thing

I use the cheats when I just want to mess around. If I dont feel like it doing missions, I just punch in the ammo cheat 10-20 times, weapons cheat, and health cheat, and I'm ready to take on tanks.

Christ Indo...how hard could it be, just wing it...plane is in the air, sky is up, ground is down...how ******* hard could it be? Seriously...Airport diagrams???? The airport is where ever you set the plane down.

Remember experience is the best teacher. Good Luck.

Unfortunately, that theory won't hold water in the real world of aviation.

The approach plates and airport diagrams simulate rather well what it's like to actually fly a plane from say, Phoenix to Dallas-Fort Worth. Constantly changing radio frequencies as you move through airspace, figuring out how you can 'legally' land at a large airport, etc. Oh, and having a licensed pilot check your work from time to time to make sure you're doing it accurately enough, because when you DO finally sit your ass down in a real plane, you actually know what's going on around you.

I've done both. It's a pretty accurate simulation. The extra paperwork helps expound upon that.

And I don't use GPS. You don't learn how to navigate with GPS. Navigating and flying are two different things. Flying is pretty easy, navigating is a bitch.

it's not the flying I would be worried about...it's the whole landing deal that would concern me.

navigation what for? Knowing where you are is way over rated

    Landing aircraft rulez
My favorite was watching a checkride instructor squirm doing a 3-pointer on a gusty day. I thought for sure he was gonna slap the throttle and make us go around. Bastard failed me because of my perfect landings too

That's what you get for making a better touchdown than him.
