I think you can rest your head easy at night because when you wake up internet will still be there...it will be like trying to outlaw liquor ...the masses will not stand for something so effective and cost effecient.
now what you are refering to as far as possible threats is a whole other topic

The internet won't be going anywhere before there's something better to replace it; and it's doubtful that will happen anytime soon. The US COULD effectively shut down the internet here in the states (at least access to it within and FROM without) IF they wanted to since the control or regulate virtually every major backbone here. If you have a foreign dial-up account that you can access, you'd still be able to get to the outside world and see the rest of the internet. But for those who surf almost exclusively US sites, we'd be pretty much screwed. I can't think of any practical reason for the government doing that unless they WANTED to create mass hysteria. It would be like the Civil War re-enactments they do all the time. The difference being we'd be re-enacting 1929.

    Hello,

On a similar topic I wonder what the top 5 or 10 most hacked sites are? I'm guessing www.microsoft.com would be #1. Probably second MIGHT be www.irs.gov!!!!

If it was a government shutdown, I'd think I2 would go along with it.

Arpanet and Internet is apples and oranges. I believe the only lingering aspect from ARPA is the packet system.

  10. If I recall correctly their are 7 major backbone points to the internet. I think that upto 4 can be taken out without a disruption of service, just a slowdown. Anymore than that and it starts going downhill.
