Ok, I have an AMD 1800+ and was wanting to upgrade to a 3000+ barton (333 fsb). As a matter of routine, I make my backups using the DVD-RB tool and CCE 2.5. I usually do 5 passes. This usually takes about 10 hours to complete more or less.
My question is: How much better time will I make during my reencodes by upgrading to the higher speed processor? I have 512 MB ram but have heard that upgrading this really doesnt help with encoding, that it is all processor based.

RAM will have negligible difference. CPU does all the work."speed's just a question of money. How fast can you go?" - Mad Max, 1979 -
Higher CPU clock speed and FSB will definitely speed up encoding. Intel based system with higher cpu clock speed and fsb has an advantage. I am not trying to start a "AMD vs Intel" dabate here !

Intel ALWAYS has the edge on ultra-repetetive tasks like video compression. Their architecture is just better suited for that. It's also twice (or three time) as much money, so...
