On a lot of Sony DV and Digital 8 camcorders, you can enable the Firewire (i-Link) in using a widget, not the USB. On Digital 8 camcorders, the analogue in is enabled too. Go to http://www.dvstuff.co.uk/ and click on DV-in Enabler on the left hand side of the page. Looking at the list, the 103E doesn't appear. Are you sure this number is correct?
The reason why DV in is disabled on a lot of the lower spec European camcorders is down to the level of import duty. The import duty is set as a percentage of the cost price to the importer. That percentage is higher for a video recorder than for a camcorder. A camcorder with DV In enabled can be used as a video recorder so attracts the higher level of duty. As most people that buy a camcorder would never use the feature, it allows Sony Eurpe to keep the retail price lower by not giving a feature that most buyers wouldn't use anyway. -
Thank for your reply. The Sony model is DCR PC 103 E PAL but the strange thing is that I cannot find it also in driver update on Sony Web Site! May be this is the code used to sell the cam in Italy, and that abroad Italy the code is another one.
