Can someone explain why with the JVC DR-M10 that if I am using DVD-RW that it needs to be formatted in VR mode for on-disc timer recording to work?

I've used TMPGEnc DVD Author to successfully pull in DVD-RW Video files but what do I do if it's VR?

  3. Quote from the manual:

    > On-Disc Timer Programing is not possible on a DVD-RW disc
    > formatted in video mode. (pg. 101, “Format a DVD-RW disc”)

In order to extract the video files from DVD-VR disk, you need a software that can understand the format. The latest version of several softwares from Ulead (UVS8, DMF 3, .. etc) and cyberlink (producer gold) can do it.

DVD-VR disk is in UDF format, depending on your OS, you may also need to install the UDF reader program. Nero InCD 4.3.x.x works for me on W2K.

    Hope this helps.

When I finalize DVD-RW disk recorded in VR mode and put it in my Windows XP PC I can see all files. I think this is because Windows XP comes with Roxio CD burning engine and can read disks in UDF format.

Windows 2000 supports up to UDF 1.5. Windows XP supports up to UDF 2.1.
I believe DVD-VR disk is formatted in UDF 2.1 and that is why Windows <2000 requires additional driver.
