Cool, thanks. Figured I'd have seen mention of it elsewhere (including here) by now.

People say the darndest things on the internet.
    We sure do.

From the Streamclip File menu "Demux to headed M2V and AC3" (it's near the bottom). Make sure to save the 2 files to the same location. When done, drop the M2V file in the Video tab of Toast and it will find the AC3 itself. This way, provided the mpeg file falls within the DVD standard, toast never re-encodes. It does however multiplex and add the chapters every 5 minutes. (I really wish I could modify that chapter setting)

    Hope this helps

P.S. This process lets me put up to 6 hours of video, not the greatest quality mind you, on 1 DVD. You can add movies until your total size reaches 4GB. 3 movies in HalfDVD fit nicely. Toast makes a nice menu too.
    Hi Alph

Brilliant - this is exactly what I want to do ... but I've been going round in circles for days trying to create a suitable mp2 file in ffmpeg. I either end up with an m2v file that won't open in Streamclip, or have a file ending in .ff which won't either. I've tried both ffmpeg and mpeg2enc engines.

I've got my head around your process but am stumped by this at the mo. is there any chance you could save the precets that you use and email them to me - that way I should be able to replicate what you've done. All the other parts seem to work ok. Would be grateful if you could help me out like this, or for any pointers as to what I may be doing wrong.

    Cheers

FFMPEGX creates mpv and ac3 files which it then muxes into the mpg file. Is there some reason those cannot be handed off to Toast, rather than allowing FFMPEGX to mux them, then having to demux them with Streamclip?

I have converted a long file and let FFMPEGX create the VIDEO_TS folder, so although i would like to be able to adjust the chapters, this is actually good news. I didn't know Toast added chapters at all.

This is probably a redundant question, but just to clarify, Toast will do a straight burn this way with no chapters if they don't exist?

My goal here is to take one long mpg, or avi file and get it onto a DVDr with some chapters that can be jumped to. Ideally, i'd like to create a simple menu, too. Is there a tool that will relatively easily allow the addition of a menu either before or after reencoding to DVD compatible format? (but not starting with DV)

Am i correct in assuming that the only way to create a menu with Toast is to have what i want as chapters in separate files?

PS. I have all files spit out by ffmpegX: ac3, mpv, mpg, and the mpeg.DVD folder.

    Hi Flarch

You can use Sizzle (which allows to Author the DVD with menus&chapters) or Moviegate (only adding chapters).

I tried using Sizzle (which seems awfully confusing) but even though my stream is mpg2 with ac3 sound prepared for DVD, the first thing it does is say it's demultiplexing it.

After ages, the progress bar has barely moved, but it's using >50% CPU. It doesn't take this long to demux!

I tried giving it the M2V and AC3 files separately, but it claims the AC3 file isn't 48 Khz, even though it is.
