  1. There's an AVI file that I want to encode with TMPGenc to MPG (DVD). The AVI file is encoded with CoreAAC Audio Decoder. When I open it up in TMPGEnc, it 'Judges the field order' (Actually, it says Judging field order...). Then when it's done, the audio of the video doesn't load up (the Audio section is empty).

I open up VirtualDubMod and open the same movie file and it says that the VBR audio encoding is improper and I click on YES to fix it. Then I save the WAV of the audio. When I open the WAV file using any player, there's an error. (Winamp says that the codec is missing). But I downloaded the codec and installed it. Then I re-open the same AVI and this time I click on NO to not fix it. At the end, the same problem occurs. Is it because there's a special AAC Codec that I don't have? Why can't I load the audio in TMPGEnc?

EDIT: I'm sure I have the codec because when I play the file in Windows Media Player 10, it plays perfectly fine.

  2. In virtualDub demux the aac file, and then load it up in foobar2000, and convert it to a wav file. From there you can convert the audio to ac3.

  3. when I load the demuxed file in foobar2000, it says,

INFO (CORE) : startup time: 100 ms
INFO (CORE) : opening file for playback :
    INFO (CORE) : location: "file://D:\gs1" (0)
ERROR (CORE) : error opening file for playback :
    INFO (CORE) : location: "file://D:\gs1" (0)

Then when I right click on the file and slide to convert, I click on Run conversion. Then I leave the selection as it is (WAV, PCM fixed-point). I specify the output directory and click OK. this is the error message that opens up:

INFO (CORE) : startup time: 100 ms
INFO (CORE) : opening file for playback :
    INFO (CORE) : location: "file://D:\gs1" (0)
ERROR (CORE) : error opening file for playback :
    INFO (CORE) : location: "file://D:\gs1" (0)
    ERROR (foo_diskwriter) : Conversion failed.

Also, in VirtualDubMod, when I do a direct stream copy of the movie file and save the AVI, Windows Media player plays the video, but no audio and then crashes a few seconds later.

And here's something else: When I load the file, I click on NO to the VBR thing and then click on Streams>Stream List and right click on the audio and select Full Processing mode. Then I click on Save WAV and another error message:
"No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format."

  4. I though you couldn't put AAC audio in AVI package.

Could it be MP4, or MKV?

Regardless, if you can play with WinMedia 10, then you have filters to support the combination. Moving the "DirectShow reader" to the top of the VFAPI list in TMPGEnc should allow you to load both audio and video.

  5. You can put AAC in xvid AVI files. The last few of my downloads had them. As for saving the AVI file in vdub using direct stream copy only saves the video. You can always multiplex the video and audio streams back together later anyway.

For the AAC file you need to use vdub. Just load the file up goto streams -> streams list (don't do anything other then that (no audio processing options or anything)). Now select the audio track and demux it. Once your audio is demuxed try to get it to play in any player you can find that will play AAC files. I suggest trying foobar2000, but if thats not working try winamp, or some other player (make sure you have the AAC directshow filter) Once you can play the AAC file in a player use try using foobar to convert to a wav file.

For encoding I suggest you encode the video, and audio separately. Once you have your video stream, and audio file use tmpgenc tools to multiplex them together.

If you still have trouble with the audio try re-installing the AAC filter. Don't bother trying to convert it until you can actually play it back.

Install the AC3 ACM Decompressor and then TMPGEnc will be able to handle AC3 audio, though if you haven't already, you may need to increase the priority of the directshow filter.

  7. I tried gastorgrab's solution first, and it worked! lol

Thanks man. And thanks for chobo321321 and Bondiablo, too. I'll check out what you two suggested as well in case I have other problems with AAC.

I remember hearing of a hack that would allow AAC audio in AVI's but i thought it was abandoned. It was i think FAAC in a ACM wrapper.

Now to decode AAC within AVI, it seems like you need a AVI/AAC filter as well as CoreAAC filter for DirectShow playback. Does it exist / Gotta link?
