  1. So my father-in-law has an OLD pc with WindowsME/600mhz Celeron/64mb RAM.

As we all know and love, the 98/ME OS's didn't come with a competant defrag feature...and his hasn't been defragged since the 1990's

Are there any third party defrag programs I should look for for him?

FWIW...he REFUSES to move to XP or 2K.

    How about a hockey stick?

Seriously, I would probably recommend Diskeeper 8.0. You can download the trial version here.

Diskkeeper 8 is great for 2K and XP but not very usefull for 98/Me.

The boot time consolidation feature is perfect but is not an option for the older operating systems.

You might try Norton speedisk. There are a few otehrs but slip my mind right now.

  8. What do you mean no defrag? Sure it has defrag. You should run it through DOS, the file name is: defrag

& should be where you have chkdsk, which you run first.

I used System Suite 2000 on ME & 98 for years, it also defrags the registry which is very important.
