Hallo all,
what happens to my Philips 722 player is really weird. I burn a compliant (MPEG-2) SVCD using either Nero 5.5.5.1 or Ulead's DVD factory. On my PC I use PowerDVD 4 and I can watch the SVCD perfectly (about 45 minutes). When I try to watch it on my standalone DVD player I can see 23 min. of video. When it starts playing my DVD says something like "3 MPEG" or something. I assumed that there were more than 1 chapters and tried to change chapter but meaningless. There doesnt exist any other chapter. When the 23 minute video ends, the player stops.
Has anyone seen this before ??

Yes, It happens to me too.
It's caused by VBR, but it's not a problem.
The very big problem is that I cannot ff/rw SVCD disks.
By the way, do you have the same problem?

To ff/rw properly with Philips 711 I use the following:
7.12 firmware (7.22 will probably work too)
Nero 5.5.2.3 to burn (current version messes up ff/rw)
Total SVCD length under 40 minutes.

Any ideas on how to ff/rw SVCD's over 40 minutes on a Philips player? -

Nope, I was considering switching to Pioneer just for that reason. Although, three SVCD sets do make for nice quality and there's no worry about encoding rate like when attempting to fit on two. -
borndevil, what you mean its not a problem ? Is it not a problem to burn 40 mins of video and watch only 23 ???
Anyway, there is a solution to the ff/rw problem. I haven't tested it yet, so do it and tell me too.
You should replace the file "scandata.dat" in folder "ext" with one with the same name you will write in notepad and will have the one and only line written below:
scan_vcd
I repeat, I havent tested it yet.
Any suggestions on how I can burn a SVCD movie on 2 disks and not more ??
