i currently set my tmpgnc to do a 2pass variable bitrate but together with noise and colour filters its taking upto 24 hours to convert 50 mins of DV when using the good quality setting, can anyone offer any advice what the differnce in quality would be if i notched it up to NORMAL quality, and what would be the next best bitrate setting, ie constant quality etc the main purpose of my asking is to cut conversion times without loosing too much quality!!!!

  2. The noise reduction filter in TmpGenc is pretty good, but it is very SLOOOOOOW!. You could try using virtualdub to filter and frameserve to TmpGenc. This would allow you to run TmpGenc without any filters and the whole thing should be faster.

You could also try TmpGenc's CQ mode. Final filesize prediction is very difficult if not impossible in this mode but the quality is excellent and encode times much quicker. Or if you are putting one 50 min DV per DVD disk, use CBR at 8000kbps, faster still.
