I've been lurking briefly off and on at Doom9. There are some glaring differences in the numbers, as I will list shortly. Both forums cover the same basic subjects ...with some differences.
Both forums started about the same general time - Doom9 was first by 5 months. Registered users and number of moderators aren't even close:
..............................Videohelp..............Doom9
StartDate.............Aug 2000...........Mar 2000
# Reg. Users..........88,667..............59,863
# Admins..................1......................3
# Moderators............17....................47
Are we that much better behaved here? Way more members ....way fewer mods. Any ideas on what the differences are?
I frankly feel rather proud, seeing how much more efficient our forum isOr should I say Baldrick's forum. I suspect the different numbers reflect a tighter-run ship and a more efficient job done by the administrative staff here

Many of the members there are also regulars here...but they tend to be here more than there 8)

people go back and forth and good info in both forums and on both sites ..
doom9 also has a lot of alternative language sites and co-locations .. those numbers may not be in your totals above .. but here also - you have massive number of people browsing info on players/tools/media that never even peek in the forum.."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
The only problem with the doom9 forum is that it's impossible to register successfully and the only way you can find anyone to ask about why it doesn't work is in the forum - which of course you can't get on because it doesn't work.
doom9 is just waaay too hard. At least this forum actually works - and is much nicer to look at too BTW. Better laid out presentation and easier to find what you're looking for.
If it wasn't for AutoGK having it's forum located over at doom9 I wouldn't even dream of ever going there. Unfortunately though, it does. -
Maybe you caught them while they were having forum problems a while back. For the many years their forum has been up, I haven' heard of anyone having any difficulties. You shouldn't have any problems at all registering now. If you do contact one of their admins, I'm sure they will fix the problem.
Both sites are good. -
20+ e-mails to: kaizen@doom9.org over the past month at least have got me absolutely nowhere. If you know another way of contacting anyone in admin over at doom9 without actually being able to get on the forum then I'd really like to hear it.
-
Did you try going to doom9.net and clicking on the Contact link? It lists several emails to use for contacting the admin, and that one isn't one of them.
-
Thanks. I'll try those instead. I was using the address from the Contact link on the forum page.
-
I'm not registered there so I figured I'd give it a test. Registration went through, got the email with the link to confirm, hit the link in the email and I am now a member of doom9. I was going to post a test message but it says I can't post or reply for 5 days, that's lame. Please, no comments about going there and staying there
DRP, try clearing out your temp internet files and cookies. Try again but use a different username, password and e-mail address. -
Funny you mention this. I was just thinking about what makes them them (Doom9) and us us (videohelp). I think the "Doom9 is more technical" thing would get mentioned. Nevertheless, I hang out at both...

I too lurked over there while here was down and was pretty impressed. I found it to be very helpful information-wise, but lacking the individual touches of smart ass wit that we see here. I think that's what makes here good - users can have a personality.
If in doubt, Google it. -

Not what I'd call a place to kick back and be informal, like OT here. We have quite a nice little hidey-hole here -
