Some of my PC friends have been bragging about a programme called CCE which apparently gives superior quality when backing up dvd to dvdr. Now, I've always extolled the virtues of the Mac, especially in video quality, so, I'm curious. Has anybody done any comparisons? Is there a quality difference say, using CCE and DVD2OneX? And if there is, does anyone know if CCE would work with VPC?

all the better - more common encoders - are for pc ..
cleaner is not that good for example and bitvice is still the best quality software encoder for the mac (that i have seen) .. ... there are some VERY good hardware encoders for mac though, many costing thousands of bucks .. but the canopus dvd maker mpeg2 hardware encoder is is good for the mac ..
i expect some others to be ported soon for osx ....
cce can cost between 60-2000$ though ... be aware of this..
see the mac vs. pc encoder shootout here http://videosystems.primediabusiness.com/ar/video_mpeg_encoder_shootout/"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
For compressing DVD to DVD-R DVDRemaster gives you much better quality than DVD2OneX. The only downside is that at its best quality setting in which it completely re-compresses the video is quite slow taking up to 8 hours to do a whole DVD (8GB) using a G5 1.8DP but the results are very, very good.

The only difference was the DVDRemaster might have been slightly better in dark scenes, but it put loads of glitches into the menus (green blocks etc). (DVDRemaster's quick mode was noticeably worse than dvd2onex) -
I have the latest version of both programs DVD2OneX 1.4.1 and DVDRemaster 1.4. I use DVD2Onex for "movie only" back-ups using the variable mode and it works pretty well and is fast but when the movie is very long (over 2 hours) or you want to back up the whole DVD it does not render the same quality as the M2VDownsizer recompression module of DVDRemaster at its best setting with which you can get 8GB down to 4.3GB without almost any noticeable loss in quality. Also I have never experienced any glitches using DVDRemaster.

) Sometime soon though - I promise I will give DVDRemaster a 2nd chance.
