Hi guys,
Have been trialing TMPGenc 3.0 Xpress for a couple of days now and although I thought I had mastered it whenever I convert an MPEG or AVI for burning to DVD I end up with a file bigger than 3GB which Nero says is too big to be burnt as a regular DVD-r (ISO) and needs to be burnt as a DVD rom which my standalone player won't recognise.
My question being is there a way on Xpress to keep the file size down or is there a way on Nero to still be able to burn as a regular disc (being a thicko newbie I thought that anything under 4.7GB would fit onto a DVD-r.)
Many thanks in advance

Why can't 3gb fit into a DVD-r? You can fit about 4.3 gb. Anyway, you can enable overwrite in the experts feature. When it's done burning, you may get burn failed. But there is nothing wrong with it. For some reason this happens to me whenever I use overwrite. It says Failed at completion. However I would check the disc out in my standalone and it would be perfect, nothing wrong, nothing missing.

Nero's info states that "the ISO standard does not allow any file size over 2GB to be written to DVD." You have to use DVD (UDF) for data files >2GB.

Thanks for the info. so far
Excuse my ignorance but why does the file become so big and is there a way to keep the file size down to use ISO instead of dvd-rom udf etc. as I've tried burning using this format and end up with coasters as my player won't recognise the disk -
i had nothing but shit results with express3.
you could always use tmpgenc,to make a dvd compliant mpeg2 file, then split the audio and video leaving you with an .m2v and an mp2(mpa) file.
easiest way after that is to "author new dvd" in ifoedit, and add the 2 files, then just burn them with nero/dvd video. -
You're obviously trying to burn the mpeg as data, not as DVD Video. Actually, if it's a DVD video you're trying to create, it is UDF you should use... Use TMPGEnc DVD Author to author, Imgtools classic to create DVD image, DVDDecrypter to write image.

How do you think you're overburning a DVD-R ? -
Guess I wasn't paying enough attention, I thought the intention was to burn a data DVD, not a video
If you have Nero 6 Ultra edition, and just want to make a simple DVD, you could use Nerovision Express (the authoring program in Nero) to author your Mpegs. There are better programs out there (as cited above), but if you're just starting out, it'll get the job done without having to learn a bunch of other programs. Once you've gained some experience, you can always investigate other options. Just my 2 cents."Just another sheep boy, duck call, swan
