  1. I have two computers and one is Windows Xp and the other is wind 98se.
    I have a movie that is a .mkv file and will not play on 98SE but will play on windows XP. I have the same exact codecs etc on both computers. Does anyone have any idea why not?

  2. Be more specific, what codecs?

    Are you aware that there are separate versions of the Matroska Splitter filter for Win9x, and Win2k/Xp?
    http://www.inmatrix.com/zplayer/formats/matroska.shtml

    If you installed EXACTLY the same codecs on both machines you should expect trouble with one of them. (in this case)

    There is also two different versions of Media Player Classic for the same reason; One with Unicode support (Win2k/Xp), and one without (Win98/Me).

  3. Ok I installed the splitter that you suggested to make sure I did not mess up and I have the sound now using the media player classic ...so at least that is a improvement.... anymore ideas?

  5. I am using the Matroska Pack Full v1.0.3 (2004-08-21) for codecs so that should work I guess?

  6. It would be very helpful if you identified the types of streams inside the MKV package.

    In the tool package MKVToolnix is a tool named "MKVInfo.exe" that works very well. This command line tool has a hidden GUI that can be accessed by creating a shortcut to "MKVInfo.exe", and then editing the shorcut.

    Just 'right-click' on the shortcut and add the "-g" as shown;

    Double-click to start the application, then browse to your MKV file.

    The info you get should look something like this;

    **Its likely than none of the applications in the MKVToolnix package will work unless you follow the direction on their proper usage. Install the libraries just as directed on the MKVToolnix download page.
