  1. Is there any difference between VCD and mpg1
    also between MPG2 and SVCD ...
    to me it's exactly the same only one have a .mpg extension and the other have a .dat extension

    I'm I wrong ?

    VCD uses MPEG1, but only certain resolutions. A file can be MPEG1 and not be VCD-compliant.

    Same with MPEG2 and SVCD. But MPEG2 is also the format of DVD, but at different resolutions and bitrates.
