I'm trying to convert an AVI to DVD format and burn it to a DVD+R. I used DVD2SVCD for the conversion, and DVDAuthorgui for the authoring. I then used Afonic's Guide for burning to DVDs with Nero Burning Rom (http://www.dvd-guides.com/guides.php?category=dvdburn&name=nero). Once finished, I tested it on my dvd player. The video worked, but the audio seemed to be replaced with just a horrible screeching sound every few seconds. I checked all the .VOB files on my computer before burning, and the sound was good. Was there something I missed? Was this just a fluke occurrence? The audio used for authoring was in .mpa format if that helps at all. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Also, what exactly is an .ISO image and can that be burned using Nero rather than the .VOB files?

MPA or mpeg audio is not a standard DVD audio format but most players support it now. Could be your player. Try LPCM or AC3. Have you tried playing it on your computer from the disc?
An ISO file is an image (copy) of your disc all packaged up, kind of like a zip file. -
It seems to play fine in my computer. So in order to change the audio format, what steps do I need to take in order for it to play properly in the dvd player.

You don't because you already changed it somewhere along the line. Check the properties of your AVI. Most likely it's already encoded in LPCM or PCM (they are the same format). Note that PCM takes up whole lot of space, it's uncompressed audio.
Even if your AVI audio isn't in PCM format you should have an option to change this either when you convert it or author it. If you have an option for AC3 use it instead of PCM as it compresses producing a smaller file size.
