Hi everybody,
First off I say that I am not a newbie but not a pro either, so I can understand a little!.
Lately I have downloaded some Torrent movies that have been encoded using XviD and they have excellente quality (they really do!). As for my own encoding I've been using XviD too, but my results are somehow different than other's.
For ripping, in XviD configuration screen I use "1 Pass - Quality" and usually put the number between 90-97. My results are not bad (Depends on the length of the movie and ~ 700 MB)
So, I want to find out what way do they (you!) use to get better results?
I also shall add that I have downloaded K-Lite Codec Pack 2.27 and the XviD configuration screen is totally different and more complicated. I don't know if it is newer or older.

Hi all,
winifreid hi, yes, I have a movie which i ripped myself and i have the same movie that i downloaded, and both of them are XviD, but my movie doesn't has hight quality as the one i downloaded. Also i don't know anything about 2pass. I use DVDx, and for XviD configuration I just use "Quality" (usually between 90 ~ 97).
Baldrick hi, there are some guides i saw from doom9, but nothing about XviD Configurations or how to configure it.
and again thanks for spending time for my prob. i appreciate it. -
There are many reason why an avi would be of different quality. It could be a difference in resolution, bit rate or whether 2 passes were made... If you want to rip a DVD to xvid then try either autoGK or Fairuse, or look at this guide. I have found Fairuse to be the asiest and best quality, but it is no longer free.

Hi winifreid,
thanks alot, I'll check it out now, and see what'll happen. thx again -
Doom9's guides are a little outdated, but still a good resource if you want to go the AGK route.
IF you really want to get everything out of your XVID encodes, then check out this thread. It is not the easiest, but does have the potential to produce the best results, imo. That said by iteslf it will not return results much different as AGK, but it allows you to setup the encode exactly the way you want it (assuming you want to learn how to set it up exactly to your liking.) Once you get this basic workflow down/understood, you can start to learn all the ways you can tweak it from Xvid codec parameters to AVIsynth filters.
