In my opnion, Mr Lucas has every right to alter the movies as he sees fit. He has legal rights to them. Even after they are relased to VHS or DVD, he can alter them further if he wishes.
He alterered the movies to make them in line with the new trilogy, and also to bring them closer to his original vision that he could not afford to do.
For those who don't like the changes, get over it. Sure, some changes are not the best, but that doesn't degrade the story at all

I have no problem with him making changes. I just have a problem with him not allowing the Original Versions to be included. He could have easily done this and ended a lot of these debates.
I have a sense of film preservation, so I will not, "Get over it.".
