The Best Deal Ever on a Panasonic DVD Recorder?

I just purchased a Panasonic DMR-E50 for $200 at Walmart. Then, yesterday, I discovered that they had a brand new DMR-E75v (DVD Recorder/VCR) for only $200 and this unit is currently retailing between $400 and $450. That's not all though. Panasonic is doing a $50 rebate for this specific model for all purchased after August 10, 2004 to March 2005 making it only $150! I am usually not into the combo thing, but this is essentially a DMR-E50 with a VCR. The unit has that nice two way mirror on it. The LED display for the VCR is blue while the Orange LED is Orange. It weighs about a ton. The fan actually comes on after a little while and the unit doesn't seem to get hot.

It's probably a no-brainer, but should I just go with this one over the DMR-E50? I didn't know if the DVD Recorder being confined to a smaller area that it shares with a VCR would present problems later or not. Thanks again guys.

Yeah, it is the best deal. I can't find anything near that price on walmarts website. Am thinking of calling the store....

Was this a special sale or anything? I can't understand this pricing, was it marked? I now want one so bad I can taste it.

It was a red sticker price which indicates that it's on clearance. Of course, the bad thing about clearance items is that you can't put them on layaway. My Wal-Mart does this from time to time though. One day, I purchased a Panasonic VCR for $25 and it wasn't used. The DVD recorder apparently wasn't used or remanufactured either. If it was, the individual must have never programmed it as it was blinking 12:00. And as we all knew, the DVD recorders by Panasonic have a memory that keeps the date/time even after it has been unplugged for days, weeks, or months.

Just remember that you'll have additional heat inside with both going, and that macrovision will still keep you from backing up commercial VHS movies.

Also, they don't use the highest quality hardware in the combo units, so don't be disappointed if it isn't as good as separate recorder and VHS deck
