  1. Well I took my avi and used tmpge to turn it into an mv2 and it created a wav. file for sound. For some reason that wav. file has no sound at all so when I use tmpge authoring to make the vob files, there is no sound. Any ideass why ?

The audio may have only been on one channel. Use Gold Wave to see if this is true.
    Hello.

What do you mean, "nothing there"? When you loaded the video into Gold Wave, no audio showed up, did it show up on both channels, did you just load the new wave file? Throw me a bone, here.

Probably the audio in the AVI is in a format TMPGEnc can't handle. Extract it with VirtualDub and convert to WAV before encoding.
To avoid reencoding it all again, now that you have a nice mpeg video, I suggest you just use the mpg as video source and the wav as audio source in TMPGEnc DVD Author.

Nope nothing at all. Loaded the file and it was like a blank audi file.

The original video file or the wave file you extracted?

  8. How do I extract the audio with virtual dub. I have 2 files now, both avi's, one with no sound. The one with no sound has great video the other one does not, I want to extract the sound and put it in the one with no audio. Actually the other one has ac3 audio and can't be heard on a normal dvd stand a lone player. I tried authoring it, I tried everything else. So my question is can the sound be added to the good avi.

Also the wav I extracted had no sound at all in it.

Interesting. So am I to assume you loaded the original video into Gold Wave or not? Did you load the video with the great sound into Virtual Dub AC3 and selected File=>Save Wave...?
    Hello.

  10. Not the orginal, but the wav file that tmpge gave me. I'll try the other with gold wave. If this does give me a good wav file, then what ? How do i combine this with the good video file that has ac3 audio, will I need to get rid of that audio first ?

If you want the DVD to have wave audio load the audio and video in TMPGEnc Plus! and encode it to DVD format. Author and burn.

Okay, take the best video file, and the audio file and load them into TMPGEnc Enc. Select the DVD format for the templates folder. Select Start. Take the new MPEG file and use TDA to make your new DVD.
    Hello.

  18. Sorry whats tda ? I am pretty sure the mv2 file came from one of these tmpge programs so should I just load the avi even though that has ac3 sound when the mv2 file has no sound at all I'm pretty sure ? Or will it even matter ?

AC3 audio is usually fine for DVD (in fact, chances that it's the original AC3 from the DVD is pretty good!) but TMPGEnc doesn't like AC3.
So encode video only to m2v, extract AC3 with VirtualDub, Direct Stream Copy, and author with AC3 and m2v as sources.

  20. But how come when I let nero burn and encode the file there was no sound on the dvd-r, I know a lot of people will tell me not to let nero do it but it has worked fine with all my other movies.

  22. I'm almost at the point of giving up, tmpge gave me nothing, a file that had no sound again. Does anyone have any last ideas ???? I have a mv2 file with no sound, I have the wav file with no sound, then I have an avi file with ac3 sound but it will not play sound on a stand alone dvd player, I tried it on 3 so I know its not the player.

Follow this advice, you might have to use beslice to fix the ac3 that virtualdub extracts.

  24. How do I extract it with vitualdub, I only know how to change it to wav. I already have the m2v file so I don't have to encode it correct ? Can you explain direct stream copy a little more ? Also about authoring the ac3 and m2v together what file will I get out of this ? And m2v with ac3 audio ? I already know the stand alone dvd player will not play ac3 audio. And what is beslice, sorry for all the noob questions I'm still learnin so please take it easy on me.

  25. Ok wait, a little update

I have the movie in m2v with no sound and now I have a wav file with sound, how can I match these up and combine them ? And then what do I do from there ? I dob't know what size format the m2v is but won't the program I burn it fix it for tv ? Just getting a little worried because the avi movie is smaller and when I click full screen on the pc it gets full screen, but the m2v movie just stays the same but it gets like black all around. Guess I'll worry about that later, now what do I do with these 2 files ?

Read to the left on HOW TO AUTHOR and look up guides to virtualdub, you will get a lot of info that way and do related searches to your questions. All dvd compliant home dvd players will play ac3 audio. Most movies you buy or rent use ac3 as the main playing audio.

You just load the AVI, go to the Audio menu select Direct Stream Copy, then File -> Save WAV.
Or if you're using VirtualDubMod, you go to the Streams menu, Streams, select the audio stream (mostly the only one available) and click in demux.
If you're using VirtualDub standard, you'll get a file with a .wav extension, but that's not really true - it is the audio in te format it was in the AVI, so if the AVI contains AC3 audio, it will be av AC3 file. So, just rename it to .ac3 instead of .wav.
Now, VirtualDub has probably added some wav headers to this AC3, I guess that it's these johns0 wants you to get rid of with beslice. You can also use ac3fix for this.

Then you take your fav autoring app (TMPGEnc DVD Author?), select your m2v as video source, your AC3 as audio source, and you're done!
