when transferring files lets say between my two internal hds, both 7200 rpm, i have recntly noticed a big slow down, also in my unzipping from lets say winrar or winzip, i downlaoded a vid the other day that was more than a gig, and it took me a half hour to complete the process and put the files where i wanted them.

What im asking is, doses anyone know of or ever heard of any slowdown problem like this, maybe its something i should change in my bios?....is there something in the registry i can correct or upgrade....id like my stuff to really speed up, i remeber when i use to do it in under 5 minutes, all of it, now its taking forever.

SIRCOOKS, it could be almost anything. Here's what I believe is the most likely ASSUMING you have not changed anything hardware-wise. Let me know if you have changed any hardware lately.

    1. Spyware / Adware running
    2. A virus / trojan / worm
    3. Too many prgrams loaded, not enough memory
    4. Windows Indexing, Restore function, crowded hard drive, fragmented hard drive.
    5. Recent XP upgrades like SP2

Usually defrag is not the problem unless you have pretty full hard drives and you are copying large files (especially on a FAT32 file system). Still, it couldn't hurt to check. You could aslo do a ctrl-alt-del and check the running processes sorted by cpu utilization. You could have a renegade process (program, trojan, worm, etc.) stealing cpu cycles. At rest, your system idle process should be running 97 - 99%.
