The most common fix to communication port issues after updating the System is to download the combined system updater and apply it again. Sometimes it takes installing it twice to get all working right.

Naturally there are the other maintenance steps of repairing permissions and running Disk First Aid or Disk Warrior. But I think reapplying the 10.3.5 combined updater will fix your issue.

the other ting I have encountered is that after the
last few updates, both FCP and iMovie 's
preferences get corrupted. This happened to me
    with iMovie 4 and 10.3.5.

To fix it I went into /Library/Prefrences
    and found apple.com.iMovie.plist
and threw it away ( with iMovie closed of course).
upon re-launching iMovie, I was able to import
    through FW again.

  4. Actually guys
I have seen this before. #1 thing to do once installing any software piece... Go to Disk Utility and Repair Permissions! I can't tell you how many problems you will avoid if you do this (as far as video stuff is concerned) Hope this helps.
Oh, and TerryJ was right about the prefs, that's #2! Good luck! Peace
