Converting avi's to svcd and adding subs.

Am using tmpgenc and ffdshow. How do I change linespacing ?
I can change the distance between letters, so I can squeeze them tight together, but I want to have less distance between the upper and the lower line. I can't find such a setting.

I want the subs to be in the lower black border on 2.35:1 films, instead of "cluttering" the image.

But with the fairly big default linespacing I have to choose a way to small font to keep the upper line from being in the picture.

Using your method you can't - the subs are added to the video before the image is resized and black borders added (by TMPGEnc). To position the subs lower in the black bottom border, you have to resize and add borders, add the subs, then feed it to the encoder. Usually done with filters in VirtualDub or avisynth, and frame served to encoder (TMPGEnc).

This is the second time you say I can not do that, and it's still not true.

I can do it just fine.

Now, how do I change line spacing in ffdshow ? Using vobsub the line spacing is smaller, so it hasn't been a problem. But ffdshow uses a larger line spacing.

If your source video has black borders, then yes, you can. Most AVIs don't, hence neither ffdshow nor VobSub has any black borders to place the subs in!
If VobSub works, why do you insist on using ffdshow for the same job?
If you "can do it just fine" why do you ask?
Please just tell me to buzz off if I (by mistake) should try to help you in the future...

Helping ? You are not helping. You are just insisting on telling innocent newbies false information.

    First

    and now in this thread.

If that's all you wanna do then buzz off. If you wanna help then read on.

The reason I don't (continue) to use vobsub is beacuse of some codec-problem (I think) that makes the video jerky. It doesn't get jerky when using ffdshow.

Note "try to help" - obviously just annoying you, that's for sure! And you're on to me - misleading noobs is what makes me tick.

I stand corrected then! But out of academic interest: How can VobSub and/or ffdshow render subs in the bottom border of an AVI that has no bottom border?

I guess they resize it, and add borders and then add the subs. All in one go. It's pretty neat, and a hell of a lot easier than using 3 or 4 separate tools.
