  2. Is there any chance the ones I buy from Rima for .72c each are fake?

    Hmmm...

That's lower than I'm used to, but still about double over some other brands. I'm used to paying 2X for Taiyo over other brands, so that's probably about right.

Wow, that really sucks. Doesn't sound like RIMA media is affected though.

  5. Rima TY's, a couple months ago, were .85 each per 100pk (shinny silver). They dropped 5 cents to .79 - then a week or so ago to .75 and now to .72.
While not a hugh drop it looks about right in a competitive market.
They still read and burn the same so maybe Rima is more selective with their buying. (?) Hope so...time to reorder.

    Prices are for 4X...

if they're going to fake it of course the media code is faked too, so it's pointless.

probably the only way to tell are
    1) unreasonably cheap
    2) coaster city

The Taiyo Yuden 4x -R injek printables I just got from Rima while not producing any coasters have terrible Kprobe/Nero CDspeed scans. Don't know i these are fake but they don't burn well on either of three burners I have. YMMV

  12. I have been using these Taiyo Yuden discs with good results, no coasters.

But I have also been able to get an even better price on Japanese Maxell -R (MXL RG02). Are the scans of these Maxell discs as bad as the TY????

I paid .67c for the Japanese Maxells last week at Buy.com when they had a sale, and before that at Office Depot about the same.

Screw TY if they are not as good...I'll keep using the Maxells.

as well all know Maxell are sometime TY, maybe that's the best way to get real TY at the moment, or good quality media even if it's not TY.

I was talking about kProbe scans of Maxell -R discs that have the MXL RG02 code. Do they have nearly as many defects as the kProbe scans above???

I was not talking about yellow Maxell discs that come up with TY code, but actually....that raises another question. For that matter, do the Yellow Maxell discs that come up with TY code have as many defects as the Rima.com TY discs??? What's up with these Rima discs??? Do the shiney top Rima TY discs have as many/more defects as the printable ones? Is Rima buying "seconds" from Taiyo?

I have. Many times. It's been on nomorecoasters.com for quite a while as well. Since June. The TYG02 MATRIX media was some of the earlier ones I saw.

Fake doesn't necessarily mean bad. Just fake. Of course, usually it's bad. I never bother to test the fake media (not on purpose, anyway!). What's the point? It'll be canned as soon as it's discovered. As has been the case in the past (TDK, RITEK, MXL, etc).

Those single spikes can be ignored, guys. Look at the average of errors. Those are good burns.

i called rima.com this morning and spoke with the manager. he told me to check the hub of the disc to see a serial number. i did check the hub and there is a serial number imprinted therefore it's not FAKE TY discs. he assured me that they purchase TAIYO YUDEN directly from the manufacturer. he is aware of forum sites posting about FAKE TAIYO YUDEN discs.

i ran dvdinfo pro where the media code is TYG01.
