I'm attempting to back up a copy of disc one of the Scarface Anniversary Edition, using DVDShrink 3.2. I'm able to "Open Disc," but when I click "Backup," it proceeds for a few seconds, then gives me the error message "Programming Error - Exception Occurred." The surface of the DVD itself is clean and free of dust and scratches. Any thoughts on what might be causing this?
    Thanks!
    Just getting my feet wet!

I don't know what the exact cause is, but you could try ripping the files to your hard drive first using DVDDecrypter or smartripper, and then load them into DVDShrink using the Open Files button. This may or may not help.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. i had the same issue, mine crapped out towards the end of the processing session. The files were ripped to my harddrive first. No idea as to why, so i went back to a previous ver (still for download off the dvdshrink site) and it worked fine. Once that was done i went back and put the current 3.2 back on my pc

I've had some luck with problem disks by running them through VobBlanker using just the default setting. Just rip with DVDDecrypter in file mode, then let VobBlanker create a new file set without blanking anything, and then try to open them with DVDShrink. Just a suggestion.

You can get most versions from http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/dvdshrinkold/ .
    If in doubt, Google it.

The infamous clip from "Billy Elliot".
If doing a Full-disc backup, simply apply "No Compression" or "Still Image" to the "Unreferenced Material" (including this clip).

Has anyone figured out how to 'fix' this problem?

I'm trying to backup a an episode disk (the prior two worked just fine) and have encountered the same error. I've tried cleaning the disk, no unusual marks, scratches, ect.

    I
First tried using DVD SHrink to rip and shrink and got the error message. Then using DVD decrypter, read the disk as an iso image, opened the file in DVD shrink 3.2, the program gets to 87% and gives the error. I even tried reinstalling DVDshrink 3.2 and processing again, but at 87%, stopped with the error.

Then, thinking it may be a problem with DVD shrink, I shrunk another episode disk I had read as an iso, processed it and it worked fine.

Based on a forum search, I even tried using DVD srhink 3.1, but it doen't recognize iso images - so no luck there.

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks in advance

There is a Special Edition Scarface listed in the problem DVD list at DVDShrink Forum. Work arounds are there also.

  11. I got this error once using DVD Shrink to make a custom title set I made fit onto a DVD-R. My original was too big so I tried shrinking it & kept getting that error when I had it set to create a VIDEO_TS folder set. I switched it to create an ISO and it went just fine. I never figured out what it was that caused the error, but making the ISO instead of a folder set seemed to do the trick.

  12. Well, I just had this problem today...heres a way around it.
I used dvd shrink latest version with dvd43 latest version.

    1. Open Disk
    2. Click on Re author
    3. double click title 1 (this Just the Movie)
    4. Then back up

The downside of this is you won't get the menus...but I don't see why you would since the movie is already compressed 35% or so.

    Good Luck
