hey guys, i bought a Pioneer DVR105 A05 or whatever you call it a long time ago, iv been using DVD Shrink to basically delete the menus and extras and then backup to my computer and then DVDShrink tells me to put in a disc and it burns to a disc itself... thats it, just use that one program and havent had any problems doing it that way...
well I just bought a new computer and installed my A05 in my new computer, i put the jumper on this and the stock cdr drive both on Cable Select and have the A05 as the primary one...
booted it up, downladed the newest Driver/Firmware and downloaded DVDShrink and a demo version of Nero (i think you have to to have Shrink burn for you)...
FIRST PROBLEM - did a movie and it worked ok, but will only burn at 1x. I downloaded IMGTool and tried that... and it too will only burn at 1x...
SECOND PROBLEM - whever I put a real DVD in, i dont get a pop up saying, what would u like to do, watch it or whatever... i tried to open the disc with WinDVD or Windows Media or another program Dell put on there, and none will actually play the movie... they close and I get that error to send report or whatever.... why can I watch a movie????
if anyone can help me on either problem, i would greatly appreciate it... thanks

The first thing I would do is use DVD-Info on your burn media (or use DVD DeCrypter to Rip / Burn an ISO image to a 2.X RW. Either should tell you the "allowed burn speeds" actually on the media. A lot of the new versions of firmware and software are beginning to use the media codes at least as a guideline. Most of the newer drives use a feedback loop (like Plextor) to determine max burning speed. The earlier drives are forced to use media codes or default to the lowest common denominator (1X).
Might be a long shot but I would start my trouble shooting by specifically jumpering the 105 as Master, and the stock cdr as Slave. I would also check the Bios boot screen or AIDA32 to verify the correct PIO / UDMA mode for the burner is being detected.
Might be worth checking My Computer, Device Manager to see if that channel is running in "compatibility mode" or is "operating normally".
A longer shot is to backup to an earlier firmware version if all else fails. All the firmware for the A05 is here:

ok, i couldnt download that dvd-info program for some reason, if you have another link that works that would be great...
as for the the dvd decrypter, i downloaded that, but not real sure on what it is you were telling me to do...????
as for all the other stuff, i tried and none of that seems to be the problem...but couldnt find the "compatibility mode" suggestion in device manager??? -
For Decrypter, put a DVD (commercial or otherwise) in your DVD drive (reader/writer or reader if you have both). Start Decrypter, Under MODE on the File Menu select ISO==>READ. Select a location for the ISO file then hit the green arrow. Decrypter will rip the disc to an ISO file.
After you have the ISO on your hard drive, under MODE select ISO==> WRITE. Put in a blank DVD (R or RW), select your ISO file, and hit the green arrow. Decrypter will tell you the write sped of the disc and other data as it burns the image to your DVD. DeCrypter always tries to write at the maximum spped allowed by the media. -
Why did you use Cable Select? Are you absolutely certain that you have the required, special, Cable Select cable to use this?
Have you tried disconnecting the CD, setting DVD to Master or Standalone, and using it as the only drive on the cable?
I am assuming that the new PC has a different OS than the old one. Specifying this information might be helpful. -
