  1. I have several xvid files that are about 50 in length and at 23.97 fps. I am having trouble converting them to dvd. I am wanting to put at least 3 of them on a dvd(with quality loss--i know). I first export the clips audio as an uncompressed wav, and then i convert the video using VDub. I then take both new clips in to TMPGEnc and convert them. But my audio is still out of sync.

The reason i am posting, is because i am very confused by some other posts, and i would like a step-by-step process.

Here is everything I know about the clips taken from AVIcodec:

    File : 349 MB (349 MB), duration: 0:50:22, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 36 %
    Video : 312 MB, 866 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 512*384 (4:3), DIV3 = DivX v3 MPEG-4 (Low-Motion), Supported
    Audio : 37 MB, 104 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

Some of the other programs, that i see a lot of people using, really confuse me and I never know what settings are best.

So any help for an extreme Newbie would be appreciated.

    Thanks a bunch,

    1. The AVI is NTSC so do you also want to create a NTSC DVD?
    2. Were the audio and video in sync before passing the AVI through VDub?

  3. Thanks for the quick reply.

    1. Yes I do want to make an NTSC DVD.
    2. Yes the video and audio are in sync prior to Virtual Dubb

  4. It's been a long time since I last used TMPGEnc but have you tried using the AVI file as the video and audio source?

  5. Do you mean conerting to standard avi first and then re encode?

What programs would you suggest using for this process?

  6. No, I was suggesting that you use TMPGEnc to encode the AVI file without any pre-processing and create the MPEG file.

  7. Do you mean uncompressed? Where do i tell it to encode avi and not mpeg?

Never mind I see it...I'll give it a try and let you know.

  8. Do i need to export it as is, or do i need to export it with the wave file that i already extracted?

  9. why are you processing the video through vdub before running them through tmpgenc? That's an extra step you don't need.

when you run them through tmpgenc, are you using 3:2 pulldown?
