I just authored my very first dvd in ulead. Plays 100% fine on my dvd rom but on my standalone it doesnt reconize the disc.
So some dvd players dont reconize dvd-rs? am i right in this assumption?
If so what percent currently do read dvd-r's fine? I am wondering beacause this a project for sale and I dont want certain clients to have difficulties viewing the dvd.
Thanks,

It is rather rare for a DVD player to not read DVD-R discs.
What's the make and model of your standalone player? -
It says it will play DVD-R here. https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=2483&Search=Search&#comments

I have had a similar problem in the past. I burn most of my dvd's using Nero in UDF mode, but these would not play on some progressive scan players for some reason. I then tried to burn in DVD-Video mode but that would not work either. Finally I burned in UDF/ISO mode and it worked on my progressive scan players. For whatever reason, some players will play only certain formats. Just remember not to put all your eggs in one basket. While my UDF/ISO discs will play in my progressive scan players, they will not play in my PS2.

i just tried a vcd too and that didnt work on the player i know for a fact that that vcd should play because it did on my friends dvd players.
on that chart it says my player should be able to support dvd-r's but its not reading them. whats udf ? -
your pc's dvd rom is a hell of a lot more forgiving than your standalone. It could be a number of things from structure, how it is burned, media brand, etc.
I am going to take a shotgun approach (anyone else can walk through the process of figuring out all of the wherefors and art thoughs of this particular video). Open dvd shrink and run it through there and output to an image file for dvddecrypter to burn. See if that does it.
Otherwise, please list the complete specs of the before video and everything that you did in ulead. -
hi thanks so much your help so far.
ok so when i launch shrink and click backup! it makes a folder full of the dvd files. When i go to DVD Decrypter and go to iso mode its looking for a .iso file or a bin or something like that and it wont read the folder full of dvd files. -
If you do use Nero (I use 5.5.10.56) to burn, try this:
Seems to make almost every DVD I burn compatible with almost every player...
Don't know about progressive scan players for sure...but it works for my VERY picky Philips DVD 711 and my not so picky Cyberhome player...(even works for XBOX)

what brand of DVD-R's are you using ,i've had some memorex's play in my DVD-rom but won't play in mt standalone. so try changing your media
-
I am using Fortis brand dvd-r's.
My standalone is a progressive scan (dont know what that means lol) but is that perhaps why?
As we speak I am attempting another dvd-r with the nero sujestion.
Thanks everyone! -
The nero method result made the dvd not play in either of my roms and did not play in the standalone.
